Those looking for the colorful side of Sydney's nightlife travel to King's Cross. Kings Cross is probably the next best known tourist attraction in Sydney after the Harbour Bridge and Opera House. Kings Cross was originally named Queens Cross because it was a major crossroads.

It's a little bit of London in your life, a little bit of Amsterdam on the side; in short, the quirky part of Sydney. It has tacky pubs, wacky clubs, strip joints, tattoo parlors, adult book stores and a perfectly legal red light district, all under bright neon lights which burn bright well into daylight. Not surprisingly, it's the most popular place for "Buck's Nights," Aussie-speak for male bachelor parties.
Kings Cross is recognized as Sydney’s naughtiest district with the greatest concentration of adult shows, hostels and night entertainment clubs. Its glamour is backed by numerous souvenir shops, cafes and restaurants, round-the clock entertainment and proximity to the city and the harbour. Its abundant night life style, drag use and presence of homeless people may divert some visitors however it is relatively safe and the atmosphere is friendly.
Kings Cross is a wild mixture of prostitution and crime, with stylish restaurants and hotels. It has visitors of all kinds and although has some slightly run down areas has a certain quality to it as well.
A couple of interesting places to visit near Kings Cross include Elizabeth House and the Sydney Jewish Museum.
If it's a bit too much on the senses, it's a short trek to the more comfortable confines of Paddington.
Still, the Cross late at night can be hardcore. There are plenty of venues that are quite up market but some where you would be brave to enter and you would need to keep your wits about you.
