There’s plenty to see and do in Kansas City. The never-say-die attitude of the people is what keeps the city going.
There’s plenty to see and do in Kansas City. The never-say-die attitude of the people is what keeps the city going. The City’s spirit can be experienced through the many festivals and events that take place throughout the year. Here’s a list of Kansas City events and festivals that are lined up for 2012.

Martin Luther King Festival: The week that follows the third Monday of January is dedicated to the civil rights leader and his undying spirit. The weeklong festival includes educational events, performances, talent shows, candlelight services and many more events.

Kansas City Restaurant Week: From January 20th to the 29th the city hosts an exhibition of the finest culinary talents with a variety of mouth-watering dishes, prepared by renowned chefs from Kansas City. Guests can order from multi-course meals that are offered at special prices.

Jazz Festivals: The city’s association with Jazz dates back to the 1930’s with the forming of many black bands. Held in March, the Kansas City Winter Jazz festival brings warmth to the cold winter months where jazz players come together to hold educational events. The 18th and Vine Heritage Festival is held in August in the district of 18th and Vine. This place is considered to be the birthplace of the jazz music scene. The weekend long festival is marked by free performances and street activities. The Blues and Jazz festival is organized in July to celebrate Jazz through open air concerts. The Juneteenth festival is held every June to celebrate a large range of events including jazz. The holiday seasons of November of December are popular for jazz concerts.

Ethnic Festivals: September is the season when the Fiesta Hispania is celebrated. This is a two day celebration where art, music and dance related to Hispanic culture is celebrated. There’s also the Ethnic Enrichment festival that is held in August. This festival brings together 56 different cultures and showcases their cuisine, culture and art.

Besides these there are several other Kansas City activities of repute that draw thousands of visitors to the city. For instance, the Brookside Art Annual attracts thousands of art lovers to encourage artists and artworks. The Home Show held in March is dedicated to home owners on the lookout for innovative ideas and advice on home improvement. And of course, the St. Patrick’s Day Parade! This is the most colorful of all parades held in America and draws more than a million participants. The Parade is followed by a street party held in Westport Square. You can also indulge in some Kansas City shopping as you enjoy these festivals.
