A decade ago who could have thought that we could watch a live event being held just about anywhere in this world straight on our desktop machine or watch movies online on our laptop as if it was played from one of your hard drive . But yes, this is possible and it was made by high speed internet service which we widely know as broadband service. Classically broadband internet means transferring multiple pieces of data simultaneously through a wired or wireless mean of transport. Let’s see what broadband internet and its related areas are in detail.
In the 1980’s internet was accessed using dial-up modems with the use of ordinary telephone lines. This was a weak & slow service only capable to send text and small images. But with the rise of the new millennium broadband service was introduced. It was nearly 10 times faster then the dial-up internet. This enabled transfer of large volume of data such as songs, movies, etc. It allowed interactive gaming and brought numerous business opportunities front. Broadband Internet Service emerged as a global system of communication. Today we cannot think a day without the internet, it’s like a part of our life, how many of us can stay without logging in to their Facebook or MySpace account for a day. I bet there won’t be many. Working on the internet was a support business before, but now it’s become a multi million dollar business of its own with a few other businesses directly depending on it.
With the developing times emerged another milestone, Mobile Internet. It is the internet service accessible through our Smartphone’s or the Laptops via independent devices like USB modem’s or PCMCIA cards. It allowed the use of the internet on the move. It was like the internet literally following you. Now the internet is accessible just about at anyplace where you can get the signal coverage. This brought a revolution in the field of internet where every Smartphone user wanted the phone to be connected to the internet. But the mobile internet had its limitations. The speed of the service was too slow for anyone likes. Due to this low speed many users found the problem of broken pages. Compared to the speed of the broadband service, the mobile internet service was very expensive.
These problems were solved by another evolution in the field, Mobile broadband. It uses network standards such as GPRS, 3G, WiMAX, LTE, Flash-OFDMA, IPW, iBurst UMTS/HSPA, EV-DO and some portable satellite-based systems to provide high speed broadband service. It allowed a small USB modem device an ability to access any thing from graphically rich web-sites to multiplayer interactive games that to from anywhere you wish to. This high speed internet forced the mobile phone producers to work towards creating Smartphone’s much more advanced to make the users few more like a wireless desktop PC. Now a mobile phone does just about everything what a regular PC does and this was highly because of the mobile broadband internet service.
This was the thrilling journey of the internet, from the old and slow dial-up wired internet to the modern day fast pace mobile broadband internet. We have come a long way in really short span of time and we can just imagine where this journey would take us in the coming future.
