Bodybuilding champs never fail to land in covers of sports magazines or even a Hollywood contract. Want to follow the footsteps of Arnold Schwarzenegger or Lou Ferigno? Then bodybuilding competitions can be your stepping stone into the world of fame and fortune.
It’s a fact that bodybuilding requires unstinting concentration and dedication to getting that dream physique that is the envy of men and women alike. It doesn’t happen overnight, or even months. It takes years to hone and shape muscled body and once you get there, flaunt it and join bodybuilding contests.
They are not for the faint at heart, demanding the same concentration and dedication that made your body what it is. But if you had the will and the unflagging determination to attain the muscles, then you have the right mindset to join and win a bodybuilding competition. But it won’t end with just one. You need to win local competitions before getting qualified to join an international contest like Mr. Universe or Mr. Olympia.
Mastering your Pose
Bodybuilding is really all about flaunting your sculpted muscles after working hard to get them. Bodybuilding competitions are all about getting judges to see how well you flaunt it. It’s often not enough that you have the best calves or chests, you need to master the art of posing to get those muscles in their best lights in front of judges. Many times, contestants with the best physique lose out to those who can pose better.
There are eight different stage poses every bodybuilding contestant need to master. There’s the front abdominal pose, the quarter turns, the front and rear double biceps pose, the front and rear lat spreads, the side chest poses, the side triceps and the thigh pose.
Depending on the time allotted for each contestant, not all poses can be executed and you either get instructed on which to use or be given the latitude to use what you want in a free-style posing with music requiring choreographed movements. Local competitions generally have shorter durations. But in almost all of them, you are required to show your best pose that can show-off your muscles the best way you can.
Preparing for the Contest
Regardless of which bodybuilding contest you join, you need to bring yourself to your best shape and the right concentration. Maintaining the right dietary nutrition extends on the way up to the contest day. The objective is to shed of any excess fat in your body and improve your lean muscle mass with more protein and fibrous diet intake. Monitoring your diet days before the contest gets more intense and it is suggested that your main diet training for any competition be done at least 16 weeks before the contest event.
Looking your best not only means getting leaner fat-free muscles but also getting cosmetic help to heighten and further define the look of your muscle lines under stage floodlights. That means tanning your body. You can expose yourself under the sun or under a UV lamp for a few hours a day as well as apply tanning lotions and creams that can do the same job.
Looking your muscled best and mastering your poses are two critical ingredients to getting the judges’ nod come competition day. And like in any contest, it helps a lot to have the right menial concentration and not be nervous. Relax and just be yourself. GP
