My presence here is not meant to discuss about any monotonous topic and make you feel dejected. I am also not going to write about financial stats and carry out a weak analysis in quest to reply the question… But I wish to highlight it and initiate some kind of discussion. Some of you might be aware that I belong to the franchise consulting and brokerage business. My job profile explains about selling franchise concepts and assist in the emergence of franchise models expand their business models. When you are in a field, which is concerned with selling an operating license to an aspiring business owner, it necessitates for viewing things from “glass is half full” perspective. Many of us having cynical views might consider this ideation to be slightly self-serving … Let us first know that franchise consulting and brokerage is concerned with marketing and selling franchises. Well, it is simply fine to have such kind of opinion. However, I would assert that I do not see any problem with selecting the method to view things in a more positive light. In this environment… the smart money is always supportive of OPPORTUNITY. My grandfather used to say that “buy low and sell high”. While this seems like common sense as to how often do we avoid making an investment decision in a down economy? After that, look back one, two, three years later, and get angry over the lack of courage to make the move. It is my belief that there is a lot of opportunity for those looking forward to start a business. While there are absolutely conditions, particularly for those serious about taking a break from employment status to reach owner status. Before you decide to make a switch over, it is essential to analyze your current situation. First, is business or franchise ownership something that you have always wanted? Second, are you unhappy in your present situation? Are you looking for a change, and do the benefits of that change (provided you succeed) exceed the costs? Lastly, do you have enough financial resources needed to fund both the business and personal expenses? These are factors that should always be CAREFULLY considered before you make the switch. As a part of my franchise consulting practice, I tend to ask people because of the switch over the task, in conjunction with the questions stated in the previous paragraph. I come across different mistakes that are made by people focusing too much on the opportunity, and not how that opportunity fits within their goals or objectives. Franchise consulting is beyond coaching, than people think. In fact, in my experience, most of the aspiring franchise owners focus on the wrong opportunities and discount certain businesses that are more aligned with their income and lifestyle goals. Now back to the question, or topic. My feeling is… and it is just a feeling… that things are not as bad as stated in the media. I have conversed with many entrepreneurs, franchise owners, business owners, franchise consulting and brokerage firms. Indeed, I have a pretty huge network of CPA’s, attorneys, and financial advisors. And as they tend to be more cautionary, they all seem optimistic. Their businesses are growing and they are seeing opportunity. If you are considering business ownership; then, hitting the bull’s eye now is not a bad idea. Rental rates are reduced, landlords are providing deals on improvements to space, there are various people looking for employment. This makes me believe that you may be able to enter a business at a lower cost. One challenge that comes across is that of a lack of finance. This is one element that would definitely prove fruitful in the growth of the economy. Every entrepreneur would see opportunity. The current economic environment seems to exhibit an opportunity to get into a business or franchise at an affordable price point. For this opportunity, you have to be careful and understand the risks.
