The cost of these monitoring services can be quite expensive, depending on which company you go with and what actions they take in the event that your alarm does go off. Some companies will call you before alerting the authorities to determine whether or not the alarm is real.
Traditionally, people who have home security systems installed in their houses also pay for monitoring services. These services watch over the homes of their clients 24 hours a day, seven days a week, which gives the homeowners peace of mind knowing that their houses are being watched when they aren’t able to do it themselves.

However, the cost of these monitoring services can be quite expensive, depending on which company you go with and what actions they take in the event that your alarm does go off. Some companies will call you before alerting the authorities to determine whether or not the alarm is real. Other companies will notify the authorities as soon as an alarm is triggered, which can lead to false alarms and fines associated with them.

Technology has advanced to the point where monitoring services aren’t always necessarily required as a main component of a comprehensive home security system. Instead, you can get Internet-based surveillance equipment that can send a live feed of your property directly to your computer or smart phone. The benefit to installing this kind of system is that you are able to see exactly what is happening at your home any time you want. And, you don’t have to pay a third-party monitoring company each month to do it for you.

Keep in mind, though, there are some drawbacks to an Internet-based surveillance system, which might convince you to use the more traditional monitoring setup instead. First, you still are not able to watch your computer or smart phone at all times of the day and night. You might have to go to a meeting where you will not have access to your technology, which leaves your home and family vulnerable during that time. With a traditional monitoring system, when you are at that meeting, the central monitoring center is still watching your home.

If your Internet connection goes down, so does your ability to monitor your home. Central monitoring centers have multiple back-up systems that kick in if one goes down. Your home is never left unattended, even if the Internet stops working.

Finally, if your alarm is triggered, you are still fairly helpless with Internet surveillance even if you happen to catch the intruder in the act. You are not at the house able to protect your family. All you can do is call the authorities and hope they believe you. With monitoring services, the authorities are alerted right away and they know that the monitoring company is reliable and will take all calls seriously.

Both styles of surveillance offer an added layer of security to your home; however, professional monitoring services are still superior to Internet surveillance systems because nothing can substitute for 24-hour protection.
