The first and most important tip I could give anyone regarding their interior design is: Base your design on what you love.
The first and most important tip I could give anyone regarding their interior design is: Base your design on what you love. Don't try to impress your neighbors. You have to live there, no one else. You want to feel awesome every time you come home. You want to create an aura of comfort and peace. What other people prefer may not be the same as what you love. Stay true to yourself. If you love it, chances are others will love it as well.
The next bit of advice I recommend would be to consult a professional. You can save a lot of time and money by heeding to this step. Milk them for good ideas as they have plenty. They can save you from blunders you may make due to inexperience. A good designer doesn't try to force things you don't want, but instead enhances the idea you already have. There is a noticeable difference in your final product when you've gotten assistance from a professional. They are trained well and can create a space even better than you imagined.
Space Planning is another component to your design. This is the way you make the most out of the space available. You have to decide what purpose each area will serve and figure out how to maximize functionality. At the same time, you want all the rooms to blend together at the end of the day.
One of the best tips I can give is: Don't buy anything until you have a completed design plan. Before you make any purchases choose everything you want to use and make sure they all work together in harmony. Price some things, figure out your budget, and that way all your money is put to good use. I assume no one likes to waste money. At the beginning of this article I reference creating a design you love. When you buy, only buy things you love, and buy slow. If necessary, don't buy everything at once, but piece it out. Sometimes it takes time to find that perfect enhancement anyway. All in all, spend your money effectively or not at all.
Light plays a major part in your project. No light no color. You can choose from natural light and artificial light. You need to see all the elements of your design in the room they will be in if possible. Professionals always use samples of the colors and materials they plan on using to see how it will look. It's best to use as much natural light as possible. Natural light makes your colors more vibrant. Also, the colors will change throughout the day due to the different concentration of light as the day goes by. Colors get weaker the less natural light available.
If you’re wondering what colors to go with, I recommend looking at your clothes. See what colors and designs you are drawn to. Fashion trends influence furniture designs. Like I've said, follow your heart.
Good luck with your interior design nyc!
