Spray paints used in industry have the advantage of being a fast, easy and efficient method of painting but can be very dangerous if safety precautions during painting are not taken. Using specifically designated OSHA spray paint will help insure the safety of the painter and the environment.
Uses of Spray Paint
There are many uses of spray paint in industries. This application method allows the paint to dry quickly, so that it will get ready for re-coating after an hour of time. When spray painting, a large area can be painted in far less time than conventional brush painting, which makes it a popular choice for industrial usage. Some other uses of spray painting includes:
- Objects in mass quantities that are less than four inches are used in manufacturing; put on an assembly line and spray painted
- Marking: spray paint used to mark objects for safety reasons
- Line painting: such as on parking lots, garages; OSHA spray paint is available in colors that conform to regulate road colors such as yellow and white
- Automobile painting: spray paint goes on smoothly and covers all areas evenly making this a prime method of painting cars
Safety Procedures When Spray Painting
Spray paint, when used correctly, can be a painter's dream. Using a painting method that allows the paint to dry quickly can be used to paint large areas that save the hours of a painter. There are some hazards to spray painting if precautions are not taken.
- Use a spray booth when painting an object that will fit in the booth to keep vapors contained; these booths have ventilation systems to filter vapors being emitted into the air
- Do not use spray paint around hot areas as it is highly flammable
- Wear masks to keep from breathing in harmful vapors
- When painting smaller jobs, use spray paint in open outdoor areas
- When not using a booth, use spray paint in well-ventilated areas if indoors
- Wear protective clothing when spray painting; do not leave paint clothes in confined area after use
- Do not allow smoking around spray painting area
If safety precautions are not followed when using spray paint, serious complications can arise. Lung damage, skin dermatitis due to contact with paint, or fire if paint is exposed to hot elements can result when safety rules are not followed.
Spray paint is an asset to industrial painting. When used correctly, spray paint will allow a large job to be completed in a fraction of the time. It goes on smoother than using a brush, leaving a smooth surface difficult to achieve with conventional painting. It allows quick and easy painting of large quantity jobs in manufacturing, including painting small pieces of equipment. When used on large areas, it adheres to all types of material, such as stucco, wood, or metal, allowing perfect coverage in a short amount of time.
Follow safety procedures when using spray paint and the job will be finished quickly and efficiently.
