Windows Media Video or .wmv is one of the oldest formats available and widely used with a windows operating system. Though it is predominantly used by the Windows operating system, it can be arranged to read files on a Mac as well. The .mwv format came out with a special code in the year 2003 from Microsoft in order to conform with standards from SMPTE (Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers), which is a regulatory body for delivery formats of audio and video in particular. The .wmv format is mostly contained in another format called Advanced Systems Format or ASF. Not only can it use ASF as containers but it can use .mkv files or Matroska files as containers as well and such file extensions contain both .avi and .mkv so that one can identify its container and use the necessary player to play its files. Many people want to find the easy way to how to burn wmv to dvd , you can try Aimersoft dvd creator to finish this task.
Components of the .wmv family
There are many versions of .wmv file formats that have been released over time and its main competitors are MPEG-4 ASP, MPEG-4 AVC and AVS. Microsoft Corp. introduced the first version of wmv in the year 1999, it is a proprietary product and it has developed continuously over the years. All the developments until the latest Windows Media video 9 Professional do not support playing of high definition content that contain resolutions like 720 pixels or 1080 pixels and many devices support this codec.
Some of the players that support .wmv files are Real Player, VLC Media Player, Windows Media Player, Mplayer, Media player Classic and the KM player. Though it is built with a windows operating system in mind, a Mac notebook can play .wmv files through a PowerPC version which windows released fo Mac operating system X in the year 2003. After this initial venture, there were no more releases for Mac notebooks from Windows, however, there are a few third party players who have come up with Flip4Mac, a component that allows .wmv format to be viewed on any device be it a windows OS or a Mac OS.
However, if the .wmv files come with a drm protection, then the flip4Mac does not recognise the file. It is at this point that one requires the services of other software that can remove the protection and help in conversion from one format to another and also enable them to be written on a DVD.
Aimersoft to the rescue
This is software that specialises in removal of drm protection which is a digital signature that does not allow drm protected files to be shared or played on transferred devices. Aimersoft aims at removing the protection and opening up the file for conversion into other formats that are compatible with plenty of devices. These converted files can then be burnt into a DVD with the help of Aimersoft DVD burner that can convert wmv to dvd on any windows operated system. there are no restrictions from the Aimersoft software to convert from one format to the other and this is the main advantage in converting from .wmv to other formats.
