Improved Sense UI Gives The Great HTC Sensation A Real Boost

The Sensation looks to live up to its name upon its release, and with Sense working in all its glory along with a host of other features it certainly should have no problems in doing so.
Mobile phone manufacturers are renowned for producing their own user interfaces, or skins, that work on top of whatever operating system the phone supports. Some have not proved terribly popular such as Motorolas Motoblur and Sony Ericssons Timescape, whereas others have actually enhanced the user experience and simplified how the phone is used. A perfect example of a popular interface is HTCs Sense, and this system has seen a bit of an upgrade to coincide with the release of the new Sensation handset.

The Sensation is the fastest mobile handset that HTC have released, not only sporting a 1.2Ghz processor but also one that also uses dual core technology enabling effortless multi tasking and faster page rendering when surfing the web. With all of this extra power however, HTC thought a great way to use some of it was to make some neat little updates to Sense, basically meaning the best user interface available just got better. This handset uses version 3.0 and it is evident at first glance how the menu systems benefit from some of the advancements. The screens are now full of three dimensional elements and there are also now layers to the icons you see on the display. This means that rather than an icon enabling you to access a certain area of the phone, it can now offer you sub menus and options directly on the homescreen. Features such as these are very demanding on the processor, hence why this phone is an ideal candidate and why slower phones may never see this version of the skin.

A clever new addition to the interface on the HTC Sensation is the new method of unlocking the phone. The lock screen itself features four shortcuts which when unlocked gives you access to a specific area of the phone rather than simply presenting you with the main screen. For example activating the camera shortcut immediately enables you to take a photograph, saving you time and ultimately meaning you do not miss that important shot. This idea has been used on other handsets such as the INQ Cloud Touch, but HTC are the first brand that allow you to fully customise which features are represented with a shortcut. Beneath this Sense interface on this model you will find a great operating system in the shape of the latest offering from Android, 2.3 Gingerbread. Just like the UI, the Android platform is incredibly user friendly and already established as the operating system of choice for many smartphone fans.

The Sensation looks to live up to its name upon its release, and with Sense working in all its glory along with a host of other features it certainly should have no problems in doing so.
