Venturing into the world of organised NSW baseball by registering your child for tee-ball?
Tee-ball is an entry-level sport created to introduce players of ages 4 and 6 to baseball and softball. It is the first time a child indeed gets to play competitively and enjoy the baseball experience. During the first tee-ball season, your kids experience amazing and awesome moments sandwiched between a ton of incredibly dull, frustrating and sweaty moments. Here is a list of things you should expect after signing up for your kid's Tee-ball session.
A Fun Experience
Make tee-ball a fun experience and see how focused they will be for a one hour practice if games are used to teach skills or if your kids know something special is coming at the end of the training. Reward their good effort with simple treats to create a real feeling of accomplishment in them.
Keep Expectations Realistic
If your kid is signed up for tee-ball, you should not expect them to understand the game reasonably well by the end of the season. You cannot whip them to be finely tuned offensive and defensive machines.
Short and Skill-focused Practices
Remember the cliche – "one bite at a time?" It's not far from the truth! Don't choose a coach who plays baseball and crams too much information into a short practice. Short and skill-focused training are more comfortable for these young minds to process and retain.
Laugh a Lot
As a parent, try to foster a positive attitude in your kids and laugh with them. Don't ever take a chance to laugh at them. If the kids see you enjoying yourself, chances are good they will be happy too. This attitude plays a vital role in improving their skills and evolving as a player.
Good Sportsmanship
First and foremost, a parent or the coach who know how to play baseball should encourage good sportsmanship in students and promote high standards of integrity. As a parent, do not permit temper or tantrums from your part, or allow from assistant coaches' part or on the kids' part.
Tee-ball Apparels
Choose a fielding glove that doesn't cost you more money. Less expensive fielding gloves are softer, more flexible, give greater control and provide a better feel for the ball. If you choose a costly glove, he or she will have grown out of it after a year.
Don't waste money on a new pair of sport-specific cleats; choose soccer cleats or tennis shoes instead.
Say 'No' to Standard Baseball
The balls used for tee-ball game are soft and created with safety in mind. Unlike standard baseball in NSW, these balls have a sponge rubber centre that won't hurt even if your child happens to catch a bad hop or get hit with an errant throw.
Always, start with the basics and teach them basic hand-eye coordination. Thereby, you can mould your young one for long-term success.
