The SMTP or the Simple Mail Transfer Protocol is the system to transfer electronic mails between two servers irrespective of their location. Usually this system is used for sending and receiving electronic messages through various mail servers and mail transfer agents. But the personal users use this system to send their email through relaying to other clients. For using the process, the client application uses the Post Office Protocol (POP) or Internet Message Access Protocol (IMAP) for quick access to the mail accounts on the mail server.
The email server SMTP is generally used to send the user’s message to the server and the message usually resides in the mail server of its domain. When the user sends the mail to the recipient, the mailing agent of the user begins the process to find the location of the host or the receiver. It cuts the domain portion of the recipient address and looks through the Domain Name System (DNS) for the mail exchanger record and tracks the location of the targeted host.
After it locates the host, it sends the request as an email client through the SMTP server. When the host server receives the request, it allows the mail to transfer to the mail delivery agent for the local delivery of the email on the server. The mail delivery agent then stores the mail to the recipient’s mailbox and generates a delivery message for the sender to confirm the mail delivery process.
As one tends to receive lots of messages in his inbox, most of these emails come with the advertisements of many products. Therefore your important email communications are bound to get stuck among those bulk emails. There comes the email server SMTP to filter those important emails from these bulk mails. You can even divert those important emails to some other locations of your choice.
The important part of the SMTP mail system is the static IP address of the user. It ensures the identity of the user will be unique throughout the email communication. Therefore anyone who indicates the proper static IP address of the user should communicate with him easily. But for the safe and proper communication, the IP address should be registered into the local mail server.
In short, as an email server SMTP has provided its clients a positive environment to communicate with each other without interference of the other mail servers. It has provided the secure and simple architecture to deliver the emails to the proper destination with the assurance of the delivery email in response.
