Computer device’s drivers are system files mandatory to run our devices properly.
|
These days computer devices are irresistible… Guess it all happened to most of us. You’ve purchased your new device, webcam, speaker, mouse, keyboard, monitor, printer and even smartphone. You’re rushing going home to unbox and start using the device. You plug the device and waited to start entertaining you but nothing happen.
Some if not most devices will not properly work with operating system without installing its driver. This is one technical information that every computer users should know.
Wikipedia.org defined as device driver as “is a computer program allowing higher-level computer programs to interact with a hardware device.
A driver typically communicates with the device through the computer bus or communications subsystem to which the hardware connects. When a calling program invokes a routine in the driver, the driver issues commands to the device. Once the device sends data back to the driver, the driver may invoke routines in the original calling program. Drivers are hardware-dependent and operating-system-specific. They usually provide the interrupt handling required for any necessary asynchronous time-dependent hardware interface.”
For me, these are simply system files that interpret instructions coming from the processors to the device and vice versa. Without these files your device may not run as it should be.
Ok, so you realized that you need the drivers for your new device so you look around looking for CD/DVD that contains the drivers. Today, most devices will come with driver installers and utility program to manage the device specially if there are custom settings to your devices, this especially true with printer, scanner, smartphone, monitor, etc.
Drivers may come in different form, CD, DVD, EXEcutable, and extrated file. I like driver files in CD or DVD and will automatically install upon opening.
Mostly printers and scanners would instruct the user to install the driver and application first before plugging in the device. This may not be needed in most devices, so make sure to read user manual first before anything else. Next step would be simply clicking the Next button until you reach the Finish button. Rebooting may needed in earlier version of Windows but Windows Vista and Windows 7 may start using the device without rebooting.
There is an small chance that after installing the device’s driver and its application, your device will not work but as a computer user you should know how to handle it. Here is how:
1. Go to Control Panel >> Add or Remove Programs
2. Click the applications installed for your device.
3. Click Change / Remove button to start uninstalling.
4. After uninstalling the application you need to go to Device manager to uninstall the drivers. Go to Start >> Run >> type-in devmgmt.msc Device Manager will open.
5. Click the device category in the list. Hierarchy will collapsed, click the specific device to uninstall.
6. Right click the device and click Uninstall from the selection. Uninstallation will start, follow the instruction until you get the Finish button.
7. Reboot your computer.
8. After rebooting, system will automatically detect the new device which is the best time to re-install the drivers. You may cancel this process and install the drivers using the exe files provided in the CD/DVD. Manual driver installation may also be used. Right click the unknown device and select Update driver… this will bring up the windows browser to locate the driver files. Follow the instruction until Finished button.
Above process are very much application to branded devices and computer like: Acer, Asus, HP, Dell, Sony, Samsung and other computer brand
