What do you think if someone tells you that it is better for your jeans if you wash them less? But nobody should be surprised, let’s go ahead.
Carl Chiara, who is the director of brand concepts and special projects for Levi Strauss & Co., is among the growing number of jeans enthusiasts who believe in washing them as little as possible. He says he wears jeans every day in both work and social situations and he believes that "the less people wash their jeans, the better their jeans become. Denim really does shape to people's bodies, and when you wash a jean you lose some of that shape."
No likes to put his jeans in a washing machine for shaking the denim makes the fibers swell in the cotton fabric and flowers. “This in turn causes the thread to tense up and actually shortens the reduction of jeans. He does not like to dry clean his jeans. Because he do not like to become stiff, and perhaps with a center fold if they get down like pants. "Jeans should have in their personal lives every day and look like you," he says. For example, his own jeans are trademarks gradient of its keys, which he kept in his front pocket, and his bag, which tends to rub against his upper thigh.
At the end of each day, he prefers to hang the jeans by a belt to preserve its shape on a hook in the bathroom. He is careful not to wash the jeans or move with force and just lets them soak for 20 minutes before hanging by the belt loops to drip dry. While jeans let air dry, you can slide a "woody" bag of scented potpourri in jeans as he lies flat.
If it's sunny out, Mr. Chiara sometimes likes to wear the jeans when they're "almost completely dry" and sit in the sun. "This final phase of drying them out on my body helps the jeans take on my shape," he says.
It is the bacteria, yeast, etc. growing on the perspiration, body oils, dead skin, etc., and breaking them down, that cause the odor. Most deodorants work by closing the pores down so that there is little or no perspiration for the bacteria to grow on. If there is little or no perspiration, the growth rate of the bacteria is much slower and so there are fewer odors. The natural kind of deodorant works by using an ingredient that is anti-bacterial. It keeps the bacteria from growing so fast, though does not stop the perspiration. Perspiration, body oils, etc. are food for the microbes. The numbers of microbes grow exponentially in sweaty clothing on a warm day. The numbers of bacteria, under the right conditions, can double every twenty minutes. That's why gym socks smell so bad - it's the bacteria breaking down oils, proteins, etc. that causes the odor.
I know that some performance clothing has an anit-microbial built into the fabric to help keep the odor down. Maybe blue jeans manufacturers should consider putting an anti-microbial into the jeans for those people who don't want to wash them very often.
