A normal baby will spend most of his time in a crib than anywhere else, so a parent should buy a safe and comfortable crib. Most moms prefer buying the cribs several months before the baby is born so as to get the task completed early thus making their minds be at ease. The mothers try to get high qualitycribs which won’t put the child’s well-being at risk. When buying the cribs there are a lot of factors that one has to consider which will distinguish the cribs from the high quality crib to the low quality ones.
Most high quality cribs have foam mattresses which are generally cheap and significantly light. The ordinary foam mattress is between 3-6 inches and also has a high density. The crib should also have slats which are not wide apart and should be between 2 inches apart which is about the width of a soda can. The slat width is crucial as this will prevent the kids head from being stuck. The corner posts of the cribs should not be high as the infant clothing can catch on the baby and choke or injure them. High quality cribs should also have an adjustable mattress height, which will be crucial when the baby finally learns how to sit up or stand up on the crib, the crib should also be stable and before purchasing one should shake it a little to ensure it doesn’t wobble and rattle. One should also look at the versatility aspect of the crib where better cribs can be converted to a toddler bed, a child’s bench or even a full-sized bed.
When you want to distinguish high quality cribs from low quality ones you need to ensure you look at a few factors. One should not buy cribs with drop sides, the movable railings have been known to cause infant deaths as the baby can get trapped strangled or suffocated by the spaces between the drop side and the mattress. One should also shun cribs with bumpers as they are no longer recommended. A person should also not buy old cribs because they may have hazardous features which include led painting, splinters, or even slats that are too far apart from each other. It is a common misconception that high quality cribs should incorporate decorative and fancy touches. This is wrong as the decorations can easily break of and pose a hazard to your infant. Cribs with cut out designs along the railings may look really pretty at first but could trap your baby’s neck or arm thus causing harm.
All in all most high quality cribs may be expensive to acquire but are recommended as it would be a worthwhile investment for your child. Used cribs are not recommended and should be shunned as the cribs have been known to come apart in the past and harm most infants. Parents should make informed decisions to avoid future regrets. High quality cribs are safe cribs.
