If your work involves a lot of travelling, and you are not lucky enough to have an unlimited expense account, then you will most likely want to keep your outgoings to a minimum if you are to get the most, financially, from your road bound endeavours.
If your work involves a lot of travelling, and you are not lucky enough to have an unlimited expense account, then you will most likely want to keep your outgoings to a minimum if you are to get the most, financially, from your road bound endeavours. Here are some tips to help you save money on your travels:

Steer clear of luggage fees. It can cost a lot to put your luggage in the hold with some airlines. If you can get away with just hand luggage, it can save you a lot of money, but if you are going away for extended periods, or need to take samples around, then try to use airlines that do not charge for luggage fees, or travel in business class, as this can often work out cheaper than paying luggage charges in standard class.

Book in advance. If you know your schedule in advance, then it is a good idea to book your flights as soon as possible, as travel tickets tend to get more expensive as the travel date looms.

Use self service apartments. Small business apartments with cooking facilities can enable you to save a lot of money on your food bills, and allow you to eat a lot healthier into the bargain.

Use Public Transport. Although you may not be able to do this in more remote areas, most major cities have fairly reliable public transport systems. Getting the subway or the bus is a lot cheaper than getting a taxi or using a hire car, and can definitely help you get more of a feel for the place you are visiting.

Get a monthly Wi-Fi subscription. Although most airports offer Wi-Fi on a daily or hourly rental basis, this can work out a lot more expensive than a monthly plan if you need to use the internet on the move a lot. Also, take advantage of the free Wi-Fi on offer in hotel business centres and in public libraries if you only need to check your emails occasionally.

Park your own car. You might feel like a big shot having a man in a nice suit and hat park your car at a hotel or restaurant, but if it is you that is footing the bill, then there are many better ways to spend your money than on valet parking.

Avoid cost options at car hire centres. If you go for the smallest car they have available, chances are that you will get a free upgrade anyway, and you can save a lot of money by doing this. If you need sat nav, buy an app for your phone or buy a dedicated system rather than paying the extra to have it included with your hire car.
