When a graph crosses any axis or any line, curve or surface intersects the axis than that is said to be an intercept, if graph crosses the y- axis than y- intercept
When a graph crosses any axis or any line, curve or surface intersects the axis than that is said to be an intercept, if graph crosses the y- axis than y- intercept and if graph crosses the x- axis than x- intercept in a 2- D plane.

As we know an algebraic expression is the combination of variable and constants, so while describing the intercepts of algebraic equation for graphing the variables represents the co-ordinates of x and y axis.

x intercept and Y- intercept are used for graphing equations. A linear equation is the algebraic equation in which all its derivatives are of the same order. For graphing of linear equation, co- ordinates of its intersection on x and y axis or we can say x- intercept and y -intercept are required. For finding x -intercept and y -intercept, algebraic equation should be in standard form of linear equation as:

Px + Qy = R

here P, Q, R are constant coefficient and x , y are variables representing x and y co-ordinated of x and y axis respectively.

In general x -intercept means that all the points of y on x- axis are 0, similarly in case of y- intercept all the points of x on y -axis are 0. Let us take an example to elaborate it more:

An algebraic equation is as 27x2+ 9y2= 3 ( equation is in the standard form of linear equation)

now in case of x -intercept---->

as we know when x -intercept than all the point of y in equation are zero, so by putting y = 0 in the equation

27x2= 3

x2= 3/ 27

x2= 1/9

x= +(1/3) or -(1/3)

so when equation intercepts on x- axis than points are as ( 1/3, 0) and (-1/3, 0)

now in case of y – intercepts----->

in y- intercept , equation crosses the graph on y – axis so all the x points in equation are 0.

put x= 0 in equation

27x2+ 9y2= 3

9y2= 3

y2=3/9

y2=1/3

y = 1/3 or y = - 1/3a

so the points at which y -intercepts are (0,1/3) and (0, -1/3)
