The best part is that at times children choose a hobby that lasts a lifetime or a child may flit from hobby to hobby.
A number of youngsters turn to their hobbies when they have had a bad day at school or have scored low in their exam, because it helps them gain immense confidence and a sense of self-esteem from the activities they choose themselves when they forget their frustrations, at least temporarily, and focus on their hobby. It is essential to understand the importance of nurturing an interest or hobby. Parents must remember that no hobby is lesser or less dignified than the other. It is important not to ignore their opinions and desires, just because you think as a parent you know the best.
Helping your child to choose a hobby will be more effective in the long run. What matters the most is to find a hobby that your child will pursue naturally, without being influenced by peer pressure. Taking to a hobby out of peer pressure just because another child enjoys that particular hobby is the wrong reason to encourage your child. Introducing your child to adventure sports like mountain climbing, cycling, tattooing and trekking which are modern hobbies, may make a greater impact over the the traditional ones like stamp collecting, gardening, cooking, photography, music, dance and sport.
Hence, it is important to find out and nurture a hobby, you find your child pre-occupied with; the earlier the better!
