I’m pretty sure that a number of event planners out there have already thought of and even succesfully executed spy-themed weddings/parties in the past, but it would come as no surprise to me if several brides-to-be suddenly come and demand for a James Bond wedding. And who wouldn’t want one, really? It’s stylish, it’s classy—and most of all, sexy.

James Bond actor Daniel Craig and The Mummy actress Rachel Weisz shocked us all when the couple wed each other in a top-secret ceremony on June 23, with only their children—Craig’s teenage daughter Ella, and Weisz’ five-year old son Henry—and two family friends as witnesses. It’s two months later, and we still haven’t seen any photos of the ceremony, which makes party-planners like me die a little out of curiosity.
What did the bride and groom wear? What did their wedding cake look like? Did they decorate a little for the ceremony? Granted that the couple didn’t want attention from papparazi, I realize it could’ve been a very simple event, but I still couldn’t help but paint a grandiose picture in my head. We’re talking about James Bond’s wedding here, after all.
Interested on having a James Bond wedding, but not quite sure where to start? Let’s give you a couple of suggestions:
Save-the-Date Cards & Invitations : It would help if you and your partner have taken action or spy-themed photos during your engagement photo session so that you could use these to design your save-the-date cards and invitations. Get creative and incorporate some catchy James Bond movie titles into them, or if you wish to be more flashy, try having your photos edited into a Bond movie style video clip which you can send to your family and friends through a CD. (You can even upload this to a video-hosting site like Vimeo or Youtube for your internet-addicted friends to access easily!)
It’s also going to be useful if you have a couple emblem fashioned after James Bond’s. You can use it to stamp your invitations as well as your favors later on.
Party Décor & Favors : In keeping with the James Bond theme, black and white should be the dominant colors for your big day, since our handsome spy hero had a fondness for suits. You may add a bit of red or gold for accents to save the party from looking a bit dull, color-wise. It would be nice if you had a pretty chandelier at your venue, but we all know not everyone could afford those kinds of places. Instead, keep in mind to use warm lighting for a sexy, elegant feel to your party. (This means dinner by candlelight would be one of your options!)
For the centerpiece, you could get shiny black vases to hold a beautiful arrangement of red and white roses. If you want to put in a more personal touch to it, place some wonderful photos of you and your partner in four black picture frames and use them to form a square container. Put your flower arrangement in it—you may even add a long, thin candle in the middle— and you’re done!
There are a lot of creative cake toppers available nowadays, and you can easily get a spy-themed cake topper to accentuate your wedding cake. If you can’t find one, you could always ask your cake shop to decorate the cake with your couple emblem to make it stand out. When the party is done, give your guests emblem-adorned mini-cakes or cupcakes as favors.
Other ideas for practical wedding favors are crystal shot glasses, elegant wine bottle stoppers, or small swiss/utility knives (for your guests’ everyday James Bond emergencies).
Attire : Non-conventional brides would most probably love wearing a sexy black gown to their wedding, and I believe there are already bridal shops that sell them. For the traditional brides however, you could always just use the black as an accent. Highlight your dress with a black satin ribbon, or have some black detail embroidered onto your gown. Whatever artistic direction you choose with your gown, I’m pretty sure it will still look stunning when you wear it beside your coat-and-tie wearing groom.
As for the bridesmaids’ dresses and groomsmen’s suits, I would suggest the color silver. It blends well with black and white, and is also a very chic color.
As you go along and plan your big day, keep in mind that there are a lot more ideas out there that you could use to make your wedding a perfect event, so by all means, let your imagination go wild. I can’t wait to see James Bond-themed weddings very, very soon!
