Before we move on the our topic that is dividing rational expressions, we should know what is rational expression? Rational expression Is defined as any number that can be expressed as the quotient or fraction like a/b of two integers, with the denominator not equal to zero. We can perform all the basic operation on rational number like addition , division, etc. Division is the complex process that we apply on rational expression. In division of rational fraction, we do same thing as we used to do while solving fractions. Rational expression in division is in the form of (P/Q) ÷ (R/S). when we solve this we write it as (P/Q) * (S/R) and this will be equal to PS/QR. And there is a condition that Q, S, R can't be equal to zero.

To understand it properly, let's solve an example which is showing division of rational expression.

(5x2+ 20x)/( x3 –2x2)÷ (x2– 16)/ (x2– x – 12).

In the first step write it in the form of multiplication, and then multiply the expression.

(5x2+ 20x) / ( x3 –2x2)* (x2– x – 12) /(x2– 16),

5x(x+ 4)(x+ 3)(x – 4) / x2(x – 2)(x +4)(x – 4),

5(x + 3) / x (x – 2),

5x + 15 / x2– 2x,

x≠0, 2, -4, 4, -3 as they will exactly result as zero is in denominator.

Fractions, from this we mean any number formed by using numerator and denominator i.e in form of P/Q. Now, what is complex fractions? In this, the numerator and denominator are in the form of fractions. For simplifying complex fractions , we first need to simplify numerator and denominator individually, that means first try to solve numerator and denominator separately after that combine them and solve. For example, (2/4) / (12/4), on solving both individually we get, (½) / (3/1) and when we simplify both the terms we get, (1*1) / (2*3), this will give us, 1/6 so this is the solution of complex fractions.

This is all about complex fraction and rational number from my side for more information and knowledge you can take help of online tutors and tools. You will find different types of tools on different websites and with this you will also get help with homework to solve your homework related problems.
