Keep your drapes, curtains and blinds shut so that people passing on the street cannot look inside your home and see what you have worth stealing. Many would-be burglars actually “window shop” before deciding which houses to break into, and if they can see inside of your home, they will know exactly where everything of value is so they can be in and out of your home in record time.
Install a home security system. This is the single best action you can take to protect you and your children. They will give you the added peace of mind that even when you are not able to watch over your house on your own, the third-party monitoring service will be watching it for you. Also, when a burglar sees stickers and signs that indicate a home security system is installed in your house, they won’t care if you are a single mother or not. They won’t want to take the risk of breaking into a house that is under surveillance. They will likely move on to a weaker target.
Just because you are a single mother doesn’t mean you have to be vulnerable. Be proactive and make your home and family more secure by implementing the above suggestions.
