We have all used vacuum cleaners to clean our floors and carpets, but how many of you out there really take vacuuming seriously and approach it is a thorough and comprehensive way? Most people will usually give their vacuum cleaners a quick swipe or two over the carpets and be done with it. Sure, it looks a bit cleaner, but if you want a thorough clean you are going to have to be a bit more organized than that. These tips will help you and your vacuum get ready to give your home the best cleaning possible!

Prepare

Before you even turn the vacuum on, survey the floors for any debris that the vacuum will not be able to handle, such as paper clips, toys, etc. Don’t make the mistake that many people do by trying to suck up these large objects because they are too lazy to pick them up by hand. Many vacuum cleaners have been damaged by this, so do a quick tidy up first before you are ready to go.

Vacuuming should always be the cleaning task that you do last in every room, so make sure you have finished all of your dusting, sweeping, polishing and tidying before you do this final step.

Get Your Vacuum Ready

Check that your vacuum is still in working order, especially if you haven’t used it in a while. You might want to remove some of the many brushes, hoses, and attachments because it is unlikely you will use them all the time and they just make the vacuum heavier when you are moving it along the floor. Keep them nearby in case you need to use them. Also, it is very important to check the vacuum bag. Many people don’t check the bag on their vacuum cleaners, and then wonder why it isn’t as effective. If the bag is full then the dirt has nowhere to go!

Move Furniture

Are you guilty of vacuuming around your furniture, and letting that increasingly large community of dust bunnies grow underneath that arm chair? To really get a thorough clean and get rid of the dust and dirt that can cause allergies and irritation, you need to move the furniture so that you can clean underneath it. You might need to move some furniture out into a hallway or another room to give yourself enough space. If you have any throw rugs, you can take them outside and give them a good shake.

If you follow these steps before you vacuum, and take the time to do a slow and careful job and do it right, you will find that your freshly cleaned house will look and feel brand new! Give it a try!
