Do you have mice or a mouse that you want to get rid of? Here is a step by step guide on how to prevent and remove them.
1. Make sure that you are actually dealing with mice and not some other type of rodent, such as a rat. Although the removal methods are similar, there are slightly different ways for dealing with each.

2. The best way to get rid of mice is to make sure that they never come inside in the first place. Make sure that your home is as unwelcoming as possible. If you have small food particles around your house and random sources of water (for your pet), make sure to keep them out of reach of mice. Furthermore, look outside your premises to make sure that your garbage is in sealed containers. If you have, random debris on your property, clean it up so that mice don't see it as a potential home. If you have firewood on your property, cover it up.

3. If you don't want mice to enter into your house, seal off all potential entry holes. Because mice can fit through a hole less than 1/4 inches in size, don't overlook anything. A lot of homes have holes on the roof due to movement of shingles and to nobody ever investigating what's going on up top.

4. If you already have mice in your home, don't use poison as a removal method. If you do, you're going to have decaying mice in impossible to reach to areas. Instead, use lethal or humane mouse traps. You can make a humane and effective mouse trap with the materials that you already have in your own home. All you need is a flattened toilet paper tube. Place the toilet paper tube on a flat surface, with 3/4 of it sticking out in the air, so, if a mouse gets inside it, it will fall under its own weight. Place peanut butter bait before, in, and after the tube, and make the mouse fall in a bucket or box, for easy retrieval. Because this homemade mouse trap only works with an elevated surface, you can make a cardboard ramp for the mouse to go on. Furthermore, you can buy a mouse trap for less than $20. Prices vary depending on size and complexity.

5. Don't hire a pest control service unless your mice infestation problem is completely out of control. You'll likely be charged over $200 for a solution, which you can easily do by yourself.
