When it comes to Christmas traditions, the office party is up there with getting slightly sizzled on Sherry and falling asleep in front of the TV. But deciding what to wear can represent a major fashion conundrum. Should you dress up in an eye-catching evening gown, or go for a relaxed, informal look with some ladies knitwear? To avoid making a seasonal faux-pas, the trick is to get the right tone for the occasion and choose your outfit accordingly.
Christmas parties really do vary hugely. Some companies splash out on a fancy meal followed by a night on the tiles, while others are somewhat more low-key. If your office is keeping the celebrations in-house, a dress might look a little overkill, so keep it casual with some stylish ladies knitwear. Banish all thoughts of the frumpy jumpers your grandma used to knit for you though, instead choose something chic and fitted like a bolero cardigan or a tunic-sweater.
If you’re heading out for evening drinks or going for a fancy meal, something a little dressier might be appropriate. Christmas only comes once a year, so why not use it as an excuse to splash out on some gorgeous ladies dresses? Jersey Dresses are a big trend this winter, as are below-the-knee skirts.
If you’re not particularly body-confident, identify your major problem areas and dress to camouflage them. For example if you don’t like exposing your upper arms, consider a long-sleeve dress, or accessorising with a shawl. Fuller-figured ladies are advised to look for online retailers that specialise in plus-sized ladies clothing, as these will often provide you with a much wider selection of attractive, flattering ladieswear than the limited options you’re likely to see on the high-street.
Heading out in the bleak midwinter is not without its risks, so to avoid freezing be sure you’ve got a stylish coat to go with your Christmas outfit. Outdoor wear can occasionally have an unflattering, shapeless effect so look out for stylish ladies coat that will complement rather than disguise your ensemble. Tailored coats and jackets that fasten at the waist are a good way of accentuating your curves, and there’s no need to weigh yourself down with a cumbersome winter warmer. More lightweight pieces are often just as effective if the material is good, and you can give yourself more protection by adding thick leggings, scarves and gloves.
Ultimately, the best Christmas outfit is one that you feel confident and comfortable in, so trust your instincts and don’t settle for second-best. It may take a little bit of searching, but the perfect outfit is definitely out there. And if not, just remember this - chances are everyone will be feeling too fragile the morning after to remember much about what you were wearing anyway!
