Most Polycystic Kidney Disease (PKD) patients will develop kidney failure in the end. In the end stage of Renal Failure secondary to Polycystic Kidney Disease (PKD), namely Uremia, many patients lose their appetite. In fact, patients should take more dietary fiber, supply adequate heat and control the intake of potassium, as well as take more animal protein. Due to dialysis, lots of nutrition is lost, which will increase the rate of death and the occurrence of complications. Therefore, diet arrangement is of great significance. Patients should pay attention to the following suggestions.
1. Take more dietary fiber.
Fiber can increase triglyceride and serum cholesterol. About 20g fiber should be taken from food. The food, which contains rich fiber, includes vegetables, fruits, nuts, potato food, coarse food grain etc. During the end stage of Renal Failure, if patients take 270g vegetables, they can get 20g dietary fiber.
2. Supply heat.
Enough heat is used to store protein. Excessive heat may lead to Hyperlipemia and Atherosclerosis etc while less heat may induce malnutrition. Cereal is a better choice. At same time, take less fructification, sugary food, fat, especially animal fat.
3. High-potassium food (banana, pear etc.) should be controlled strictly by patients with any of the following conditions: a little urine volume, a few times dialysis and an elevated blood potassium level. Patients with severe Dropsy, an elevated blood sodium level or Hypertension, should control the intake of sodium by taking 4g-5g or less salt. Water intake should be controlled by patients with Hypertension, Dropsy or Oliguria. Their water drink volume should not be more than urine quantity.
4. Take more animal protein (egg, milk, fish, meat etc.) and less vegetable protein (such as bean products), because vegetable protein can’t be made use adequately, which can aggravates the condition of patients in the end stage of Renal Failure.
All above is the information of diet arrangements for patients in end stage of kidney disease. In you have any doubt, please consult our online experts.
