Dropshipping from the comfort of your home offers many advantages: flexible working hours, no commuting, no paperwork, and inexpensive online advertising and communication with customers. However, one of the biggest disadvantages is that you may find it tough to find reliable wholesale suppliers.
Many resellers are so thankful to find wholesale suppliers that they neglect to check if they are genuine businesses. Scams are not uncommon online. It is in the reseller’s interest to deal only with registered traders.
Some of the risks in trading with nonregistered dealers include the following:
1. Fake Business: All it takes to do business online is a website. Resellers do not physically verify addresses and other details of their suppliers. Some wholesale suppliers do not provide any contact details. Other suppliers provide false addresses and nonexistent telephone numbers.
2. Impersonation And Fraud: How do you know if the wholesale suppliers listed on a website are really who they claim to be? There are many suppliers who claim to work for well-known manufacturers and dealers. All of them may not be telling the truth.
3. Financial Loss: You may have paid a membership fee to join a wholesale list. You may have taken orders from customers and paid shipping charges. Just when you think that the orders have reached their destinations, you start receiving complaints about defective items or nondelivery. Whatever the case, you lose money for conducting business with an unreliable supplier.
4. Loss Of Business Reputation: In business, reputation counts for everything. Customers recommend businesses they like, opening doors to more customers. But, if your supplier does not keep his end of the bargain, you will lose face with your customers. Customers do not know that the supplier is the culprit. You are the person they approach when they are not delivered a product or it is delivered in a poor condition.
How can you minimize these risks? There are two popular methods for finding reliable wholesale suppliers:
1. Auction Websites: Online marketplaces, such as eBay, offer resellers the chance to check eBay suppliers’ testimonials and ratings. The only drawback is that competition is tough. If an eBay supplier is selling bead jewelry to you at discount of 14 percent, they are probably offering the same deal to 50 other dropship resellers. And all these resellers are selling these items on—you guessed it—eBay!
2. Wholesale List: A wholesale trading or dropship website that verifies trader contact details offers a safety net against the risks mentioned before. This list offers verified contact and ownership details of businesses. Because the lists contain many names in different niche areas, there is less competition among resellers.
The next time you need to find wholesale suppliers, go through directories that offer verified lists of suppliers.
