Subscribe to our newsletter and receive the latest offers. It's a phrase I encounter daily. Almost every self-respecting online company provides the opportunity to subscribe to the newsletter.

Why? Well, that I sometimes even wonder ... In some ways webmasters think that it is obligatory to offer the possibility to subscribe to a newsletter or other. But if you do not know why you do something you can not do ...
However, I assume most webmasters know why it is wise to gather email addresses of prospects. Remains only the question: How do you gather these email addresses?
I'll give you an hint, do not like Bol.com, D-reizen.nl, and Neckermann.com Autotelegraaf.nl (and so many others).
What are they doing wrong? Let's take a look at the newsletter of the above blocked sites:
If I like "blocks" see you standing (as I see them at all when) I see no reason for my precious e-mail address to leave. Let alone my birth date, place and type of data. The question is what I have to, why would I leave my data? What do I get in return?
Often these companies with "gifts" as "always the latest news "or" the latest titles in your mailbox. That's not many people draw the line. At least not as much as possible would be ...
How should I do it?
In the example of Bol.com I would tackle it as follows. Firstly, I would include the name of the visitor. These can then be used to personalize the mails. Bol.com is known for the online bookstore of the Netherlands. Why not give them a free e-book away? Let every genre of certain authors to write a small e-book specifically for Bol.com visitors and give it away as people leave their address.
This has two advantages. Authors can thus himself in the spotlight and more people will subscribe to the newsletter.
Autotelegraaf would also quite a few more entries can achieve by giving away something for free. Visitors to Auto Telegraaf are probably autogek. Do something with it!
Autotelegraaf example, would free screensavers and wallpapers of the latest cars or a car of your choice, to give away. So: "Subscribe to our newsletter and receive a free screensaver of your choice!". Obviously, these screensavers and wallpapers are of high quality. But that should Autotelegraaf not such a problem ...
This also has two more advantages. First, more people will subscribe to the newsletter. The screensaver would be an image of the logo Autotelegraaf grasp. This way they like working with branding!
Every online company can do what they think of something to give away for free. Preferably, a digital product and it does not cost too much!
As you can see there is also the major websites still much room for improvement. Take it to your advantage and make sure you're ahead!
