Let's go ahead and get to the meat and potatoes of this article. Most seasoned internet users are well aware of the term troll. That is something you do not want to be labeled as in any community you join online. A troll is the complete opposite of a top contributor to discussion boards.
A troll is anyone posting nonsense comments on blogs, internet forums, or even chat rooms. They can be spammers but trolls and spammers are not the same exact definition. Some trolls simply get a kick of getting an emotional response from other members of an internet platform. Some trolls like to talk about topics that is of interest only to them and they would discuss that topic in other threads not related to that topic. Some trolls are just trying to earn points or credit by posting a lot of short pointless comments that have no value. There are many people that have trolled at some point. It is not a federal crime. You just lose cool points for a little while. You would have to work to earn credibility again. Another thing you want to avoid doing on internet forums is making other people less smart by using improper grammar. No you do not have to be an English Professor but you should try to write utilizing complete sentences. Something that you should focus on is the culture and lingo of the community. Before jumping in with your opinions, seriously read other people's perspective. This will give you an idea of how extremely polite you have to be and what type of humor you can impose on other people. jkYes, you probably have a blog or a Facebook fan page that you are trying to grow at a gradual pace. Don't panic or indulge by plastering your link five times in all of your post. Wisely place a link to your Twitter or Fan Page in your signature block. Be creative. Sometimes people get tired of reading text. Why not make a video response? Grab the embed code and post it as a response. Just make sure it is relevant to the topic. This is a good way to build rapport, trust, and credibility in the community.
Another cool way to earn cool points in the internet forums is to bring other respectable people to the forum. The webmasters will appreciate the promotion and contribution. Maybe you will get some good karma out of it. If not at least you have more like minded individuals to communicate with.
