The Internet has been present in our lives for some time now and most of us can’t imagine a day without it. Nowadays people use it for almost everything but it wasn’t always like this, we used the Internet only for couple of things. How did it all change and why? What do people do now and what they used to do online a couple of years ago?

When the Internet was first invented most of us didn’t have permanent network connection. We had to pay for every minute spent online so it is not surprising we had to limit our activity online. Most of the young users browsed the Web to find information about their favorite artists or football teams but there wasn’t much such information there back then. The Internet was mainly for e-mail and chat, information sites were only available to those who knew how to search the web, but still there weren’t many of them.

As soon as the permanent connection became more popular and available, the real Internet era begun. That is when it all started to evolve and within a couple of years the Internet started to be something completely different. Do you still remember how it all developed?

Let us talk about very young people now, the ones that still attend secondary or high school. Like I said before they used to browse the Web only for pleasure. They chatted online meeting new people or used messenger programs to stay in touch with friends, they wrote e-mails and played different games. Then the social networks era begun and everyone had to have a profile in at least one of them. Parents got mad because they knew that the time spent in front of the computer was wasted time. Now it is completely different – parents buy computers to their children because the Internet is mostly the source of information. Young people still use it to relax after school. They still e-mail, chat and play online games but they also use the Web to learn new things. It is for example a very important source of information they need for school, but they can also check things that interest them privately.

Adults and adolescent users didn’t know much about the Web at the time when the younger ones already used it. Now most of them use the Internet every day. Many of the adolescents still visits social networks, free press release sites and chats, but the adults don’t do it very often. They need the Internet mostly for paying bills and contacting some institutions. It wasn’t possible before – now every institution has a professional website, even law firms adjusted to modern requirements and there is special law firm web design that allows creating legal sites for these special institutions.

Everything around us changes so fast and so does the Internet along with its users. We live in times when the progress is particularly rapid and one generation can experience so many different stages – what was modern when they were kids nowadays is already history.
