If you’ve ever been involved in a home remodeling project or have undertaken one in your house, I’m sure you’d agree that it is indeed stressful. But finding the right remodeler need not be a problem; simply check and see if he is a NARI certified remodeler.
For the uninitiated, NARI refers to the National Association of the Remodeling Industry. This association sets standard of practice and code of ethics to be undertaken by remodelers when undertaking their business. It also endeavors to help homeowners with tips and tricks, and other resources to help them undertake a successful remodeling project.
Certification programs for engineers and other professionals in the field are undertaken periodically to help them keep themselves abreast of the latest changes in the industry. Thus if you happen to look for a Kansas City bathroom remodeling company, make sure they are certified by NARI. The association recognizes skills of professionals who are classified under the following categories:
MCR: A Master Certified Remodeler is one whose primary job is to undertake remodeling projects and holds the Certified Remodeler Designation for a minimum of 10 years.
CR: A NARI Certified Remodeler (CR) firm is one that derives at least 90 per cent of its income through remodeling work and has a minimum of 5 years of experience in the industry.
CRS: Certified Remodeler Specialists are professional remodelers who are specialists in a specific type of work such as concrete, masonry, electric work, insulation, etc., and can help homeowners with their expertise.
CKBR: A Kansas City Bathroom remodeler is known to be a Certified Kitchen and Bathroom Remodeler when he works/owns a company that deals exclusively in remodeling kitchens and bathrooms, and has completed 4 kitchens/bathrooms per year.
CRPM: A Certified Remodeling Project Manager is one who can oversee all aspects of a remodeling project. He is required to either complete 5 years of experience in the remodeling industry and 3 years as a remodeling project manager, or has 4 years of experience in the industry and 3 years as a remodeling project manager, and a degree in either construction, project management, or business management.
GCP: Green Certified Professionals are those who apply green principles to their Kansas City kitchen remodeling projects.
UDCP: Universal Design Certified Professionals are those who are experienced remodelers in aspects of universal designs and remodeling.
CLC: Certified Lead Carpenters are professionals who can look into all aspects of the remodeling project including customer satisfaction, personnel management, and administration.
The next time a remodeler boasts about the experience and expertise, you know what to do! Just ask him for his NARI credentials. This would speak volumes about his work!
