There’s two main ways to get a copy of your favourite movie or sound track. You can either get it duplicated or replicated.
|
The easiest way is to get it duplicated and certainly if it’s only one other copy you’re looking for then we would definitely recommend this. In fact you could do the whole CD duplication technique in your bedroom using just your home PC. Once you’ve invested in a CD burner it won’t cost you any extra. In fact you could start charging for the copies and actually make money! It will also be completed reasonably quickly and the actual quality shouldn’t be too bad.
However if it’s excellent quality you’re looking for then replication is the route to go down. This is more costly than duplication since it involves getting a glass master copy of the disc cut then producing ‘stampers’ which go on to make copies of the CD or DVD. The copies are then injected and moulded. At a later stage the DVD or disc is sprayed with aluminium paint and lacquer to make them more hard-wearing and durable.
Hundreds or even thousands of DVDs and CDs can be produced in this way. The more copies needed the lower the cost per unit. Professionals in the music industry regularly employ replication techniques since they post out hundreds and thousands of videos and films of their clients on a regular basis. The film industry too invests heavily in the technology. Blu-ray has also recently come onto the market and caught the attention of movie moguls in Hollywood who are utilising the technology to produce 3D movies for film and TV. The consumer electronics industry is also heavily investing in the new technology in what has become an extremely competitive market.
Another plus of DVD replication and Blu-ray technology is the fact it’s possible to store a far greater amount of data on them than on a conventional duplicated disc. For instance a menu, interviews with celebrities and even additional music tracks can all be incorporated in record time and at the hands of an editing studio engineer.
Replication V duplication can also be a numbers game. For instance for large orders it’s generally best to go with replication and for a handful or at least less than 300 duplication is advised.
The quality of replication techniques is also far superior. However this also makes them more susceptible to scratches.
