Nail cares have become more important for cosmetic reasons than protection these years, but they are also important part in our body and needs special care.
We have talked about how to protect our skin and our feet, and now I’d like to discuss how to protect nails with you.

Nails grow out of deep folds in the skin of the fingers and toes to protect the end of our fingers and toes from trauma and also help us pick up small objects.

The nail is made of a hard protein called keratin, which is one of the building blocks in our body. Fingernails grow about 3 to four times as quickly as toenails, and both fingernails and toenails grow more rapidly in summer than in winter.

However over the last hundred years, nail cares have become more important for cosmetic reasons than protection. In fact the exposure of nails to various chemicals will make the nails dry and even make them extremely brittle, which will lead to splitting, breaking, peeling and cracking of the nails. Excessive exposure of water can also make our nails brittle, because water can remove the fibers from the nails and make nails peeling, tearing and breaking.

Since we cannot completely avoid putting our hands inside water, we should apply nails protection, and a much practical tip is to use gloves while doing the dishes or using the produces which contain harsh chemicals in cleaning our homes.

And here are some other tips for us to protect our nails in daily life.

Remove old nail polish.
To remove the old polish, first moisten cotton with nail polish remover and press over the nail for a few seconds to soften the polish. Then with a firm movement, bring the cotton from the base of the nail to the tip. Repeat this process until all of the polish is gone.

But do not use the nail polish removed more than once a week. Nail polish remover causes the nails to dry out. Dry nails crack and split more easily than nails that are well hydrated.

Clean your hands
Soak the hands in warm, soapy water for a few minutes to remove dirt. Clean under free edge of nail with orangewood stick.

But remember not to dip your hands in water for a long time, particularly in hot water.

Moisturize your nails
It is a must-have step after you take a shower or bath, and after each time you wash your hands. It will help prevent splitting of the nails caused by soaps and cleansers. You can apply moisturizers such as Aquaphor, Moisturel, and Vaseline at bed time every night.

To women, maintaining enough nutrition is not only for nail care, but also good for their healthy. Nails usually can reflect our health condition and a precaution that we have to take care of our health. Low levers of estrogen in women’s body will lead to problems of dry skin, hair as well as nails. To protect nails in good condition, you have to apply healthy diet, which comprises of the required amounts of minerals, vitamins and other important nutrients. There is a vitamin called biotin makes snails stronger in animals. Some studies suggest that it may help strengthen human nails. This vitamin is available at health food stores.
