Once you have chosen your house removals company, the next thing you need to decide is whether you want them to pack your things or are you going to pack them yourself. If they are going to pack them it may require more personnel to be scheduled on the day you are picked up and moved. And they will have to plan exactly what boxes they need to bring with them. And when they come to give you their estimate they will include the labor and boxes to pack all of the items you have.
When you make the decision to pack the house yourself for the house removals, you will need a strategy. Since you still have to live in the home until you are moved you will need access to the kitchen, the bathroom and other areas so you can’t just stack boxes anywhere. When you stack boxes as you pack you have to remember to leave walking space both for your family and for the house removals workers. They need to have room to stack several boxes on a dolly without backing up on or into a box of fragile items. You should also try to keep similar boxed items together.
When you begin to pack you also need to strategize as to what you will pack first. There are several ways you can think about this. You can go room by room using various sized boxes. Or you can put similar items together such as books or small items and pull out all the same sized boxes and begin to pack them. So if you gather the books together in a room you can pack all of the books. This doesn’t mean to drag all of the books in the entire house into one location. This does not make sense because you will be moving those heavy books more than once. So if three rooms have books in them then pack up the books in each room and stack those boxes in that room.
If you have light items that have to be wrapped in packing paper in most of the rooms then choose the best size box for them and begin to pack them. If you don’t fill a box completely with light items then bring items from another room to fill up that box. Since boxes cost money you don’t want to under pack boxes either. Movers will tell you that generally when a home owner packs their own boxes they generally under pack them so the boxes are very light. This is a mistake for another reason in that if the boxes are under packed they can squash when other boxes are set on top of them which may cause damage to the items in the box.
Most movers require that they be paid up front for a move and then if the move weighs less then estimated because you don’t have as many things to move as you sorted them out, you will have to wait for a refund.
