Hotels: Bathrooms As a Sign of Care and Quality

Almost all hotels and bed & breakfasts offer en-suite facilities for their guest rooms and this will probably be the first part of the room the guest will visit after they arrive. It might be for a more biological need, but it might also be a quick way to check on the overall cleanliness of the room. A clean, well ordered and stocked bathroom will set their minds at rest that they've made the right choice.
However, this works both ways as a tired, poorly stocked bathroom will ring alarm bells and probably scotch any plans to return.

The way you stock a bathroom plays a key role here. It is pointless investing in high-quality bedding, curtains and carpets if you then ignore the upkeep of the bathroom. This article offers a brief guide as to what to consider when stocking your hotel or bed & breakfast’s bathroom.

Consistency
This is an important but often overlooked element in creating a feeling of quality in bathroom fabrics. Try to buy all the fabrics from one range, preferably from one supplier. This will save on cost, but also ensure that the quality is consistent and the identity of the fabric remains the same. The identity is provided by the 'headers', this is the weave at the end of the towel or bath mat. Having different headers signals poor quality and a lack of care.

Curtains
Keeping shower curtains fresh and updated is also often overlooked. But to a guest, a shabby stained curtain is a sure sign of a lack of care. Replacing shower curtains on a regular basis is an affordable way to maintain the feel of quality. From a specialist supplier, curtains can cost as little as £8. A weighted hem is good way to add to that feel, because it maintains the curtain's shape and improves its function. Striped curtains, again, offer a higher standard look.

Fabric Weight and Size
The rating of the grams per square inch (GSM) is important. 500gsm is probably the minimum you should consider for towels, and 650gsm would be the beginning of what is considered a luxury range. 400gsm is the count for an economy towel.

Size also matters, because if you want to create the feeling of quality and luxury then skimping on size is a bad idea. A 'bath sheet' is almost essential these days for a high-quality room, and this is sized at around 100cm by 175cm. For a fully luxurious feel you can buy a 'jumbo' towel, sized at 150cm by 200cm. A traditional sized bath towel is usually sized at around 70cm by 140cm.

Important Extras
Then there the extras, which are increasingly popular and even expected by some customers. Bath robes and slippers really give the guest a feeling of indulgence. These should match, and again be consistent with the other fabrics used. There are several types of robes available for hotel use, but the two most commonly used are towelling and 'waffle-weave'. 400gsm is the minimum weight you should consider for towelling and the waffle-weave should be 100% cotton.

Finally, if you cater to more elderly guests or those with children, rubber mats for the shower and bath are essential. Keeping these new and fresh offers the same benefits as with the shower curtains, but there is also the important matter of safety. Helping your guests avoid accidents is always a priority whilst they're enjoying your hospitality.
