With the developing global scenario, effective measures are being taken by the Indian government to enhance the overall national ambience to accelerate the tourism industry of India is on an upswing which has further fuelled the growth of the hospitality sector.

International tourism has thus increased favorably, leading to advancing and expanding services in the hotel business.

According to Travel and Tourism Competitiveness Report 2009 produced by the World Economic Forum, India holds the 11th position in the Asia-Pacific and is ranked as the 14th best destination for tourism. India is also globally appreciated and recognized for its heritage sites and cultural resources. Also, with the advancing infrastructural facilities, the country is being effectively connected with the world.

India is across the world famed for its cultural richness that boasts of its gentility, graciousness and suave. These qualities are best reflected in the Indian Hospitality Industry that is entitled with the responsibility of upholding the Indian virtue of ‘Atithi Devo Bhavah’.

Blending the invincible growth scenario that is increasingly surfacing in the country’s economy and the unfathomable business opportunities being initiated by potential resources, the hotel industry is fast emerging as playing a key role in India’s changing countenance. Besides, active initiatives on the part of Indian governments towards the upgradation and expansion of the infrastructure like national highways, railways, airport, etc., the tourism and thereby the hospitality sector will witness further flourish to greater heights.


As per surveys conducted by the Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion (DIPP), tourism and hospitality industry contributed 2.1 billion US $ ascribing to the foreign direct investments from April-March 2010.

India is witnessing unprecedented growth in almost all the sectors of the economy. Several cities have matured in the Special Economic Zones (SEZs), due to consistent growth in the industrial, IT and BPO sectors. There has thus been an upswing in the number of travelers, thereby accelerating the percentage of tourists/guests needing residing space. This leads to tremendous opportunities for the hotel industry to expand and flourish further.

The increasing business scenario of the hospitality segment accentuates the employment vacancies in the sector. The important cities of India such as Mumbai, Delhi, Bangalore, Chennai, Pune and Hyderabad are potential locations attracting widening investment deals in the hotel sector. Major hospitality operators like Hilton, Intercontinental, Starwoods, Taj, etc., are planning for multiple grand projects for further extensions. This will henceforth enhance employment opportunities for prospective professionals in the Hotel industry

Working on the basic principles of servitude, the Hospitality sector deals with a wide range of jobs such as Management Trainees, Marketing/Sales Executive, Catering Officer, Kitchen Management, Customer Relations, etc. This industry comprises of services initiated by Hotels, restaurants, Health Care, Resorts and Cafes. With a multitude of hotel projects being contemplated upon, the openings for such roles would further intensify, providing surplus opportunities for job seekers in the Hospitality dominion.

India’s mushrooming economy is reflecting overwhelmingly on the Hospitality domain. It is one of the fastest progressing constituents of the service sector operating in the country, employing potential workforce at a steady pace.
