Home DNA test kit- how is it used for paternity testing and what do you need to know?
|
The Home test kit has made it easy to carry out DNA testing. You can use this kit to take DNA samples and then send them to a laboratory for testing. On some occasion you may have problems which you can avoid if you know about them.
Will I even need a kit for my paternity test?
DNA paternity testing is done using buccal swabs because these are the most simple and reliable method of sample collection. You do not always need a paternity test kit, especially if you cannot provide oral swab samples. If you are sending forensic samples (for example semen for the alleged father and a used Kleenex for the child) you will not really need to use a kit. In this case, however, you will need detailed and extensive advice on how to collect these particular samples, how to package them and post them and moreover, an explanation of what the chances of success will be.
In some case, you also could create your own home kit by purchasing swabs from a pharmacy. Again, you will need guidance by a DNA testing to know exactly what you need to include in the kit and how to put it all together. Making your own kit is sometimes advised when you are in a hurry and just cannot wait for the kit to arrive in the post.
My Kit hasn’t arrived. How long will it Take to get It?
Home testing DNA kits are good for paternity testing. You will have a kit sent to your address once you have paid for it. If you made an error in your address this might be why you haven’t received your kit yet. When you pay for your kit you can have registered mail or courier send your kit. If you haven’t received your kit yet to might be delayed in the mail or in rare occasions it might be lost. If the kit still isn’t there after more time has passed you can request a new one which will be sent for a low cost. Use a courier so you can track the package and know where it is when it’s sent by the courier. Packages sent by a courier won’t be lost but packages can be delayed as the courier can’t control events such as weather or other delays out of its control.
How will I know my DNA samples have been received?
When your samples are at the lab most companies will send you a notification. You will only be informed of the expected due date of your results. The time you get the results will vary depending upon the company doing the tests. Normally, the turnaround time is anywhere between 3-10 working days.
