Menstrual cramps are the pains occurring in the pelvic and abdominal areas as a result of a woman’s menstrual period. There are several home remedies for menstrual cramps which can be tried within the comforts of your home.
The pains occurring in the pelvic and abdominal areas as a result of a woman's menstrual period is known as menstrual cramps. Menstrual cramps are also known as dysmenorrhea. The pain may range from mild to severe. There are basically two types of menstrual cramps; Primary dysmenorrhea and secondary dysmenorrhea. Some of the reasons for menstrual pain are; reaching puberty at early age, genetic factors, menorrhagia, metrorrhagia, and smoking, drinking alcohol and illegal drugs. There are several effective home remedies for cramps which can be tried at home.

One of the easiest home remedies for menstrual pain is to place hot water bottle on your stomach. This will give relief from pain. Make it a routine to exercise daily. Exercise helps in releasing endorphins which helps in killing the pain.

Cinnamon is known to have antispasmodic and anti-inflammatory properties. You can add cinnamon to your tea or have breakfast sprinkled with cinnamon. Basil is also one of the natural home remedies for menstrual cramps. Basil has a pain killing substance known as caffeic acid. Just boil one pint of water and add two tablespoons of basil leaves in it. Now cover it tightly and allow it to cool. Drinking half cup of this solution after every hour will give relief from cramps.

Do not drink caffeine rich drinks such as tea, coffee, chocolate and cola drinks. Caffeine increases nervous energy which may increase menstrual pain. Try to take magnesium supplement before and during the periods. This will help your body to absorb more calcium and calcium is an important component in lessening the menstrual pain.

Chamomile is one of the effective home remedies for menstrual cramps. Add dried chamomile flowers (two teaspoons) to a cup of boiling water. Drink this tea two days before the expected period. Consuming two cups of this tea everyday during periods is beneficial.

Try to include food rich in calcium, zinc, magnesium and vitamin B. This will reduce the pain and bloating. Ginger root is beneficial in giving relief from the pain caused by menstrual cramp. All you need to do is boil some water and add pieces of ginger root in it. Consuming this tea will definitely help in treating menstrual cramps.

Blend beet, cucumber, parsley (75 milliliters) and carrot. Drinking this juice will treat menstrual cramps and help in regulating a monthly period. Add a cup of baking soda and one cup of sea salt to warm water and soak yourself in it for at least twenty minutes. This effective home remedy will relieve you from cramp.

Drinking hot liquids such as warm lemonade or herbal teas will relax your muscles and increase your blood flow. Add some peppermint to your tea and drink one or two cups daily. This will relieve your cramp. Avoid dehydration and drink enough water. Taking aspirin will help in providing relief from cramps. During your monthly period try yoga stretching. These home remedies for menstrual cramps as mentioned above are simple to try and can be implemented with ease.
