History essays will talk about different incidents of history and its interpretation and significance through the eyes of the writer.
As we all know, history is a written record of events that happened in the past. It tells us about the people, who lived on earlier times. It tells us what these people did every day, how they grew their food, how they become rich or poor, how they lived, how they built great cities, how they fought one another and how they helped one.
It also tells us about the lives of great people. It tells us where they lived and what they did. Some were great rulers. Others fought battles and became famous conquerors. Some of them were famous teachers. They taught people how to lead good lives. There are many others about whom we study in history books- writers and explorers, scientists, artists, musicians and thinkers. We can learn a lot from the lives of these great people.
Why do we read history? First, because it is interesting. People want to know what happened in the past. It is exciting to read about the past. History also helps us to understand the world we live in today. We can learn from the mistakes which people made in the past. Like we said earlier, history is a written record. Many thousands of years ago, people didn’t have any paper. So, what did they write on? Some people wrote on stones; and even on the bark of trees. People also wrote on papyrus, which was made from the thick grass, like plant which grows near some rivers and lakes. Some people wrote on metal plates of copper and silver. Paper was invented in China. From there it spread to other parts of the world and came to be commonly used for writing. As people traveled, and went from one country to another, they told each other about these forms of writing.
Although most of the history we know comes to us from books, we learn history in other ways, too. We learn history from buildings and monuments. Some people dig below the ground to find old cities that have been buried there. These people are known as archaeologists. They learn a lot about the people who lived in the cities by looking carefully at the things they excavate. The study of things, buildings and monuments that people have left behind is known as archeology.
History tells us about the past. Therefore, dates of events are quite important because they give us an idea of when events took place. When you read history books you will often find the letters BC and AD after of before dates. For example, X emperor died in 232 BC or Y emperor was born in 1556 AD. These letters stand for “Before Christ” and “Anno Domini” which in Latin means ‘in the year of our Lord’. As you can see, all these dates are counted from the birth of Jesus Christ.
These are the very basics of history and history essays will deal different interesting subjects of history in detail.
