By the way, the Mantras originated in India.
This word is derive from two Sanskrit words, "man" or "manas" which denotes the mind or to think and its suffix, "tra", would mean a tool. Its literal translation, therefore, is a catalyst of thought. It is a very powerful phrase, word or sound which could have deeper meanings than the plain context. They can be single or a combination of syllables and one must be very careful because inaccurate pronunciation of the Hindu Mantra will lead to demise!
Mantra is a sound that is based on energy. According to the tradition of Indian philosophy, the human body is made up of five different elements and that the first among them is the sound. There are studies about sound symbolism which implies that oral sounds have their own meaning even if we are not aware of it! It is also believed that there are many symbolisms that are connected to each sound. This makes mantras meaningful even if they are not understood.
Hindus believe that their subconscious mind will be able to find solution of problems through deep meditation and reciting the mantras. Once it is repeated continuously while meditating, it is said to change one's consciousness.
The basic sound of the Hindu mantra is the Aum. This is known as the basic mantra or Pravana Mantra. Aum or Om is considered the most powerful mantra as it indicates the very first appearance of the Supreme Reality, Brahman. This sound is found before and after Hindu prayers.
The Hindu mantra is considered divine and would be revealed by enlightened beings. It knows your Highest Reality and you will be awakened in a new perspective when you fill your consciousness with it! This is the connecting point or a bridge for the message of reality and truth that will cleanse your soul with powerful vibrations. They say that the mantra will be revealed to you so there is no need to seek it. This will depend entirely on your spiritual progress and disposition.
