Hero Honda Passion plunged during 2001, shortly after Hero Honda Splendor, was merchandising in a dull pace ab initio. Then using TV commercials and affordable pricing,Hero Honda bounced Passion into the mass and people began purchasing this 100cc motorbike. The Passion, as the name goes, is motley of the CBZ and Splendor conception posing as a premier entry bike. Passion was revived again later, as PassionPlus and PassionPro with a host of design and useful lineaments.

Faring alone clearly makes the Passion stand out of other bikes. The convex shaped bulbous faring was an eye turner those days when it was launched. The headlight assembly was neither smart like a splendor but not too broad like the CBZ faring. The headlamp design start narrowly and widens in waist like fashion ending broadly at the top. The amber indicators are well protected by the faring and sticks out prominently. The speedometer console has a fuel gauge, just like in splendor. The trapezoidal leg guard does the job very well in protecting the rider from side falls. The tank is slender and sleek, bulky than splendor’s, while the stickers are delight with an underlying theme of “rage”. Additionally, the sides of the seat are fatter, providing more room for stickers. The engine is horizontal and slightly tilted upwards, typical CD100 design. The locker box on both the sides is an utility to safe keep your documents.
The heel-toe shifter, round footrests, fully covered chain set, adds to the “commuter” style of the bike. The seat structure though, not as flat as the splendor, doesn’t cause any inconvenience to the pillion rider. The stainless steel grab rail starts from the upper middle of the pillion and makes a big C curve with a two step extension at the rear, guarding the tail light assembly and also providing room for a little luggage, say a helmet for instance. On the right side, the sleek exhaust and the coiled spring suspension occupies the space. The broad sides of Passion, stands apart distinctly on display. The enthralling color combination and beguiling graphics makes the bike an executive one. The tail assembly has a attic like multi reflector red lamp design that is more orotund than the puny box-like red lamp in Splendor and CD100, providing greater visibility from a longer distance.
The proven Splendor engine is shared in Hero Honda Passion also. the 97.2cc air cooled,4 stroke single cylinder OHC engine churns out a maximum power of 7.5PS@8000 rpm and a maximum torque of 7.95NM@5000 rpm. The engine is well refined, less noisy at speeds above 50, and also doesn’t get heated up soon. Thanks to the horizontal positioning of the engine, that allows more air flow over its surface thereby, cooling faster. 9.0:1 compression ratio optimizes the fuel consumption and ensures consistent mileage.
The Passion is emphatically a good upgrade for a Splendor in terms of handling. The taller stance and commanding view of the road, inspires confidence to the rider. The waist-like seat design, especially the puffy seat in between the legs, provides extra grip to the rider. Also, the upright seating position avoids pain to the back, at the same time caters no extra strain to the shoulders on a long drive. The smooth pull from the 97.2cc mill, is adequate to carry two well built Indian adults sitting on it. In fact, the saddle height plays a very important aspect when going through bad road patches, for it allows the suspension for a vertical shock movement. The additional 9 kg weight of Passion (116 kg compared to Splendors 107 kg) is evenly dispersed; plying decent grapple to channelize corners and propel heavy weights too. The smooth clutch action and faultless gear shifts (all 4 up gears), doesn’t turn the rider down in city traffic. Even with a pillion rider, one can achieve 80+ on a highway, although beyond that the engine is incapable of acceleration. At night, the multi reflecting headlamp spreads its light across a wider area, saving damages out of treacherous bad roads.
Hero Honda Passion is a cosmetic makeover of the well proven Hero Honda CD100SS engine. With the competition increasing in 100cc bikes, like the launch of Kinetic Boss, Bajaj Boxer, Hero Honda’s own CD100 and Splendor, Passion distinguishes itself by its premium look. Passion gives a decent 65 kmpl mileage on an average. Available in attractive colors, Passion is surely a enterprise on road. The attractive graphics, taller stance, vogue and grand suspension tempts passion to by the Hero Honda Passion.
