Painting, as Picasso once said, is just another way of keeping a diary. A painter does not paint what he sees, but what he feels and what he tells himself about what he has seen. It allows the painter to release his creative energy and helps him calm and relax his mind, body and soul. You don’t need previous experience to paint; all that’s required is a basic understanding of the color scheme. There are several websites that guide people on how to paint.

If you are a novice, learning to paint, the first and foremost thing to do is buy the things required for painting. You’ll need brushes, colors (preferably water colors if you are a beginner), and paper. When buying the brush, remember to buy a brush that’s specifically designed for watercolor painting and buy at least three sizes of brushes; small medium and large. Since the medium brushes are the ones that are mostly used, they wear out fast, so buy more of these.

Since you are beginning to learn, how to paint, inexpensive colors are sufficient. You can also buy commonly used colors like blue, black, red, yellow and white and refer to a good website to learn how to mix colors. Although any paper would do, water colors papers are thicker and easier to paint than plain paper.

As earlier said, there are several websites that teach people how to paint. The best thing about online painting classes is that you can learn to paint from almost anywhere in the world. There’s no start and end date to the tutorial. You can learn to paint within the comfort of your own home and learn it at your own pace. Once enrolled for a painting class, you get access to free painting aide. These painting classes teach you about different aspects like understanding structure and form, light and shade, composition, texture and effects, the different painting styles, etc. You could also download videos, where complex techniques are explained by the instructors. In fact some websites allow students to upload their painting online to be reviewed online by amateurs and professionals.

You could also enroll yourself for a short term basic course, that’ll help you with the basics of painting. A typical art class has the instructor conduct a 4 week course, where he introduces the basic concept of coloring and techniques, the right use of brush and the different strokes.

Painting is a great way to express your emotions artistically and learning how to paint helps to channelize your energy effectively and positively.
