There are all sorts of dangers in the home, some of which we wouldn’t even consider as a hazard. It is important to take care of these dangers so you feel safe, both when you are at home and when you leave for the day. There are simple ways to check the home for dangers before you leave, so you don’t spend the day worrying about a catastrophe striking.
Damaged Sockets
Damaged sockets can cause fires so don’t leave these in a state and get them attended to straight away. An electrician is the person to call on to sort it out for you before it becomes a danger. The damage may not be visible, so if you hear a noise from the socket or smell something unusual, it is time to have it looked at.
Loose Cables
There are cables all around the home and these can be an accident waiting to happen. It is quite easy to trip over cables so keep these out of the way and they will become less of a hazard. You may want to tape them down, especially if you have young children running around the home. Try to keep all your cables together so it doesn’t become a dangerous clutter on the floor.
Flooding Hazards
Flooding can occur in both the bathroom and kitchen, with something as simple as a tap left dripping. There are ways to reduce the likelihood of flooding in the home, including checking that all taps are turned off when not in use. It is also important to install shower enclosures as this will help preventing water escaping from the shower and causing floods. If you aren’t careful with this kind of thing, you could end up flooding not only your own home but also your downstairs neighbours!
Lights
The main point of danger with lights is that they end up overheating which can result in a fire. It is important to check the wattage of your bulbs so that you don’t use one which is far too strong for your lamp as this is a hazard waiting to happen. When you leave the house for the day, always turn off your lights so that there is no danger of overheating.
Plugs
There are many of us who will leave the home with many of our plugs still in the sockets and this can actually cause a fire, particularly with phone chargers and hair straighteners. It is better to be safe than sorry with your plugs, so always take these out when you are leaving. There are no plugs which are completely safe when they are left in the socket, including the television, so take them all out when you are going out.
