All health care providers in America are expected to be thorough with the knowledge of PALS and CPR. Training can be available both on and off line.
Accidents can happen any time, anywhere and without any prior warning. Sometimes accidents are not very severe and people escape without too much health damage. However, at other times, accidents can be life threatening and can lead to the ultimate consequence of death. There have been so many cases where people lost their lives because medical attention did not reach them in time and there were hardly any people who could provide life support till the time the former arrived. Children have also been victims to unpredictable accidents. Drowning can be placed as a very common example of the mentioned.

What is the first thing that comes to the mind when a person witnesses such situations . . . It certainly relates to ensuring that the patient does not lose his / her life. one would want to do anything in their power to make sure that the person can hold on to their lives and safety for as long as professional medical care arrives. In any accident situation, what the injured party usually suffers (besides broken / dislocated bones, burns cuts and slashes etc) is blockage of flow of oxygen to the brain and the lungs, which can claim life in seconds, if not treated on an urgent basis. Take for example, when a drowning child is rescued from the water, the first thing that will be administered to him / her is CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation) which will prevent the child or, for that matter any drowning person from collapsing into a state from where recovery will be impossible.

CPR therefore, is of vital importance. For any Healthcare Provider CPR training is non negotiable. This is applicable not only for drowning but for other life threatening situations like heart attacks, drug overdose, poisoning etc. The purpose of CPR is to ensure that oxygen flow to the brain remains uninterrupted. This is because, if brain stays without oxygen for a long time, then it will for certain, suffer irreversible damages. There have been many carbon monoxide poisoning over centuries and the result of delay in treatment, and establishing the importance of pumping oxygen to the brain has been made obvious.

Considering the importance of CPR, the health care providers are required to have updated knowledge supported with newest technology to assist the same. Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation is not the look out of professional health care providers only. It is meant for anyone and everyone who wishes to keep themselves prepared for unforeseen situations. There are many training options both online and offline, that can assist a person / professional to get certification for the same.

The same can be said about Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS). Unlike CPR, which can be taken up by anyone at random, being ‘pediatric’, PALS is not everyone’s cup of tea. While it is always for the best to have information about how to manage child’s health and how to take control of situation when it comes to the worst, it is expected that the ones aspiring for PALS have some prior exposure to the field of medicine. American Heart PALS can be mentioned when it comes to the question of certification and recertification in the same.
