Health insurance is indeed a boon for people considering the rising medical cost. Today, falling ill without a proper health insurance policy has become a luxury considering the expenditure involved in recovering which includes hospitalization cost, doctors fees, medical check-up cost, etc. In simple words a common man cannot afford to fall ill unless he is assured of sufficient medical insurance backup else he will land himself and family under severe financial crisis.

Health insurance is necessary for every individual as medical contingencies can strike anyone, anytime. Our fast paced lifestyle and busy schedule has made us prone to many dreadful diseases and disorders which may strike without prior warning. A startling fact by The International Diabetes Federation estimates that the number of diabetic patients in India is more than doubled from 19 million in 1995 to 40.9 million in 2007. Also nearly one-third of the Indian population is in danger of being afflicted by hypertension and diabetes, by the year 2015, according to the President-elect of the Hypertension Society of India. This figure is indeed a wake-up call for all those who are experiencing such a lifestyle and without sufficient medical insurance coverage. Thus, it is rational to be covered under a comprehensive medical insurance policy rather than preparing yourself to shed all hard earned money in no time.

Buying medical insurance in India now has become an extremely common affair as more and more people are realizing the benefits attached to a medical insurance policy. Also constant government intervention and introduction of dynamic health plans has contributed to larger number of people inclined towards buying a comprehensive medical insurance policy which is affordable in nature.

Another reason for a drastic spike in health insurance sector in India is the eagerness of foreign companies to invest in insurance sector which has indeed come as a blessing in disguise. Most foreign companies willing to invest in India are established and thus see a potential market here. Also these companies set high standards with regards to customer satisfaction which would compel Indian companies to pull up their socks too.

The primary reason of buying health insurance should be coverage of risk. However, there are many other factors which need to be considered when buying a health insurance policy. Factors like cashless hospitalization in quality hospitals, comprehensive coverage to your family, pre & post hospitalization cover, premium payment amount, claim facilities, etc. play a crucial role in deciding a health insurance policy. Thus, one should select health insurance which fulfills if not all than at least most of his/her healthcare requirements at affordable premium payment cost.
