Why choose Manila?

Manila, an important Asian capital city, is one of the main places you will visit when traveling to the Philippines. The term "Metropolitan Manila" or "Metro Manila" refers to the city itself, and more than a dozen other cities and suburbs adjacent to it, which make up the greater metropolitan area.

For travelers who wish to know the "must-see" hot spots in Manila, listed below are five tourist attractions to hit up when you proceed to the city for the first time:

-University of Santo Tomas

-The University of Santo Tomas (UST) is the oldest active university in Asia. Founded in 1611, the first campus was situated in another historical site, Intramuros. UST is the alma mater of four Filipino heroes who shaped the nation's destiny: Jose Rizal, Emilio Jacinto, Marcelo H. del Pilar, and Apolinario Mabini. Philippine presidents Manuel Luis Quezon, Sergio Osmena, Jose P. Laurel, and Diosdado Macapagal also studied here; together with various Chief Justices of the Supreme Court, senators, congressmen, scientist, architects, engineers, and celebrated writers. UST was visited by two popes, Pope Paul VI and Pope John Paul II, and various heads of states and foreign dignitaries.

-National Museum of the Philippines

This museum is the official repository of the most precious masterpieces in the country. It's conveniently located to other tourist attractions like Rizal Park andIntramuros in Manila It's the place to find the world-renowned Spoliarium, by Filipino artist Juan Luna, as well as other historical artifacts.

-Intramuros

Intramuros, the oldest and most historic district in Manila, is also referred to as the "walled city". It had been the seat of government throughout the Spanish colonial period. Out of the eight churches built within its walls, only two remain standing: the San Agustin Church, the oldest building in Manila (finished in 1607) and the Manila Cathedral, that was reconstructed in the 1950s after having suffered massive destruction during World War II.

-Rizal Park

Also called Luneta Park, it's a historical urban park adjacent to Intramuros. This has been a favorite spot for unwinding, socializing and functions as an urban oasis for family picnics during weekends and holidays. It's also one of the major tourist attractions of Manila.

You will find significant moments in Philippine history at Rizal Park. The execution and martyrdom of the national hero Dr. Jose Rizal that started the fire of the Philippine Revolution against the Spanish Colonizers serves as an inspiration of the park. The park was made in his honor and Rizal's monument is its symbolic focal point.

-The Minor Basilica of the Black Nazarene

Also known as Quiapo church, the Minor Basilica of the Black Nazarene is a well known Roman Catholic church located in the District of Quiapo, Manila. The church is famous for enshrining the Black Nazarene, a dark statue of Jesus Christ, which many claim to have miraculous powers. The church holds a weekly novena every Friday, and is visited by a huge number of devotees every day.

Every January 9, millions of devotees celebrate the translacion, or transfer of the Black Nazarene statue at the church by way of a daylong procession. It is stated that once you've got physical contact with the statue, all your prayers become true.

Cebu is another place you must look into visiting. Book cheap flights to Cebu and see remarkable sites like Basilica Del Santo Nino, Magellan's cross, plus the Kawasan falls. Prior to getting flights to Cebu, get quotations from travel agencies or surf the internet to check and get the best rates.
