As more and more companies begin to see the benefit to have a cohesive, dynamic team (as opposed to a bunch of individuals working against a clock), there has been a growth in the market of facilitation providers. Team building events are more than a company picnic. They are a method of learning about your coworkers in such a way that communication between team members is improved and inspired and productivity is expanded. If this were not an effective tool for energizing an existing organization or bringing a startup organization to its feet there wouldn’t be the cottage industry that exists today.
There are companies that cater (literally) to your corporate needs by bringing in chefs to facilitate a chili cook-off. Other companies advertise adventure sports as a way to build trust and incorporate decision-making exercises into the mix. Some take a more conventional approach and bring their employees to a sporting event. Still others choose to up the game by providing facilitation strategies that force the employees to utilize their more creative qualities, such as producing a “Bollywood” video or a spy film.
While some executives might scoff at paying money for their employees to spend a day reenacting a dance epic, the proof is in the pudding. Testimonial after testimonial shows a highly efficient, highly productive teams emerging from these activities. Employees are no longer individuals punching their time in for the day, but dynamic teams engaging each other towards a common goal.
