Granada, a famous capital city situated in an autonomous Andalusian community, derives its name from the name of the province that it belongs to! This magnificent Spanish city is a witness to picturesque biodiversity. Geographical diversity, coastal climate of the beaches, fertile topography and varying terrain are characteristic features of this city. This wonderful town is located at the confluence of River Genil and River Darro, at the foot of Sierra Nevada.
Recently, Granada has surfaced as an attractive holiday destination among nature lovers and explorers.
The older part of the town is lined with a chain of lofty mountains that are accountable for its colder inland climate. Prominent districts situated in Alhambra and Albaicin are adorned with precipitous hills, narrow alleys, astounding corners, and unique crevices found in rocky regions. On the contrary, the modern city is established on the plains and a grid of crisscross streets and Cathedrals divide it into distinct areas.
Tourist Attractions:
Granada is known for Mulhacen peak which reaches up to 3,481m above the sea level and registers itself among tallest peaks of Spanish peninsula. These mountains are perfect for climbing, excursions, hiking and skiing. Winter sports are organized by the local tourist departments during the winter seasons.
The beach has a long history according to which, Javea was a popular port for both Moors and Romans. It is said that Romans used this port for fishing and they later started commerce and trade from Javea. Now, this small town has become a popular tourist spot and it is also known for its beautiful climate free from pollution.
There is a world famous art museum known as La Alhambra, situated in the regal fort of King Carlos V. This art gallery exhibits outstanding forms of Moorish art, Spanish ceramics, metal work and Hispano architecture dating back to approximately 9th to 15th century.
