Fuerteventura is the second largest Canary Island. It has 40 000 inhabitants.
About the Island

Fuerteventura is the second largest Canary Island. It has 40 000 inhabitants. Its capital is Putera Del Rosario.

The main attractions for tourists are beaches that stretch along the coast. Since it is very windy in Fuerteventura, it is a real paradise for windsurfers. The Island has long and incredibly beautiful sandy beaches. However, inside of the island you can find a mix of desert soil and rocks.

Fuerteventura is the closest to Africa of all the Canary Islands; there is only 100 km between them. Landscape of the island resembles that of Morocco and Western Sahara.  Furthermore due to their similar climates, they have the similar architecture as well. The houses have flat roofs and they are traditionally painted in white color.

Beaches

Fuerteventura has miles and miles of beaches, and even in the peak of the season it is still possible to find a part where there is no one.
Almost all beaches on the island are windy. However, the west side has more wind, so this is where surfers go.
The east side is a bit gentler and it is possible to find a bay without wind.

Here are some unusual places and beaches of this amazing island:

El Cotillo is a place in the northwest of the island. It has several popular beaches among surfers.
Gran Tarajal is a village on the west coast. It is very popular with local inhabitants and moreover, beaches are covered with black sand.
Playa Blanca (white beach) is an attractive beach between the airport and the capital of the island, Puerto Del Rosario.

Jandia Peninsula

Jandia Peninsula is considered as a Natural Park. It is in the north, between the villages of Costa Calma and Morro Jable. It has the best and longest beaches. The water is shallow and turquoise. The longest strip of sand is 14 km and it is located on the west coast of the peninsula. However, there is no paved road so it is recommended to visit it only by an off-road vehicle. In addition, the currents can be very strong, so swimming is dangerous.

Attractions

Undoubtedly, the biggest attraction is Corralejo. It is a resort where you can find beautiful sand dunes stretching to the north in the vicinity. Corralejo town is a great place for a family vacation. You can find many bars and restaurants there. It has a large Water Park and moreover, the town offers a wide range of water sports such as diving, surfing, fishing trips, boat excursions, etc.

On the other hand, Corralejo is the center of nightlife. Clubs and pubs are placed around General Franco Avenue. However, if you want a calm evening, you should visit the pedestrian section.
