Steel is one of the most versatile and reliable building material known to man. Steel is used in every structure. It is everywhere around us. You walk a few steps from your house and you would encounter steel in one of its many forms. Typical houses have major steel components built inside. Even the very bed you sleep on has steel components built in it. Just as there are so many different uses for steel, there are also as many different types of steel alloys in use today. Steel is a very versatile product. Many businesses take advantage of the various types of California steel products, such as 430 stainless steel.
The Different Types of Steel
Steel may be classified according to its final use, its chemical properties and its method of manufacture. Various kinds of steel may also be classified depending on the different international standard-setting organizations. Examples of these organizations are the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) and the International Organization for Standardization (ISO).
One type of steel that many industries use nowadays is 430 steel. This is one of the most widely used types of California steel out there. Due to its versatility and properties, it is used for many different applications and products.
430 Stainless Steel
Properties - 430 steel is a low-carbon, ferritic stainless steel. Ferritic means this type of steel is mainly made out of iron. It can almost be considered pure iron. It has ferromagnetic properties. Ferromagnetism is the property or mechanism of a substance that enables it to become a permanent magnet. This type of steel is known for its ability to resist corrosion and oxidation (rust). It is also very flexible and easily machined. These properties make it a favorite material to work with in many industries.
What it is used for – 430 steel has a wide variety of usage. It is widely used in electronics, automobiles, heat exchangers, scientific apparatus, and vaults, among others. It is also used for automotive trim, kitchen sinks, refrigerators, stoves, chimney liners, fasteners, lashing wire, machinery components, and many more.
Global Steel Trends
Today, steel is one of the most widely used substances known to man. According to the World Steel Association, global crude steel production as of 2010 was at 1,413.6 million metric tons. The economic recessions that gripped the world’s economies these past few years didn't even slow down the steel industry. According to the World Steel Association, steel production fell in 2008 and 2009, then picked up again as 2010 came along.
The country leading steel production by a large margin is China, with the nation producing 626.7 million metric tons, or a whopping 44.3 percent. You can assume that as this country is rising as an economic powerhouse, it will produce the steel it needs to support its economy.
The universal outlook for products such as California steel and 430 stainless steel looks bright as ever. The global steel industry is growing continuously, which is just what many of the world’s economies need.
