Thanks to Google having published these changes in advance, merchants can prepare themselves to adopt them. The end result of these changes is that users get to the product faster and can also be directed to the merchants easier. In any case, a professional SEO company can help users adapt to these changes better.

User-friendliness has been something Google has always claimed to target with its innovations. The recent changes in Google’s Product Search Feed requirements can also be explained this way.
Changes for Better User Experience
These changes are currently demanded of feeds targeting USA, UK, Germany, France and Japan in the first phase, and merchants who don’t adapt to these changes will be identified by Google and their products won’t feature in the Google Product Search lists. The idea behind these changes is to give users what they want quickly and accurately.
Shoppers should not be deceived with regard to the availability or products, their characteristics, size, price, and so on. They should get what they’re looking for in as fast and as accurate a manner as possible. Google believes this will help them send more users to the merchants.
The Google Product Search Feed changes
These changes are to go into effect from September 22, 2011 and are centered on five parameters – Availability, Google Product Category, Images, Apparel and Data Freshness.
• With the Availability parameter Google indicates that merchants should give shoppers the correct indication about whether their products are available or not during the time of the search.
• The Google Product Category is a new high-level attribute, along with the present product type attribute, which contains the item category in the Google taxonomy.
• The Image link is made compulsory and more image links for up to 10 product images are encouraged by Google. This is another user-friendly feature as it helps in the product’s visual representation, giving shoppers an infinitely better idea of what the product looks like. The more the pictures, the better for the user.
• There may be differences in product sizes, particularly if the stuff dealt with is Apparel such as shoes, dresses and other size-affected and taste-determined items. Merchants may offer these products in many specifications, sizes or colors which is why Google demands that such information – size, color, and other relevant details – be included in the product feed to be submitted to Google.
• Finally, there is the issue Google has always been stressing on – Data Freshness. Information about the products must be regularly updated by the merchants so that shoppers will get accurate current information and pricing about the particular product. So Google says that once the product search feed and policy changes have been brought into effect from September 22, 2011, Google will be regularly checking feeds submitted by the merchants to ensure their accuracy. Merchant accounts found wanting may not find their products in Google Product Search lists.
